The total population amounts to 447,162 including the main ethnic groups Cham , Raglai , Hoa , Tay , Nung and Muong , all of whom have diverse ethnic cultures with artistic and religious forms of architecture , and numerous rituals and large festivals .

The core areas and buffer zones have been designed based on the Nui Chua National Park system . The National Park is one of 200 globally important ecological regions identified by World Wildlife Fund . The conservation value of mammal fauna in the National Park is very high with many globally rare and valuable species . Initial statistics show that out of 83 currently known mammals , up to 25 species belong to vulnerable , endangered and critically endangered categories on the International Union for Conservation of Nature's Red List , including Black - shanked doucs ( Pygathrix nigripes ) and Silver - backed chevrotains ( Tragulus versicolor ) . The terrestrial and marine core areas are strictly protected sub - zones of the Nui Chua National Park designated for ecological restoration , and are uninhabited .
The buffer zones are also sub - zones of the National Park , located adjacent to the core areas , where environmentally friendly economic activities ( e.g. agriculture , fishing , tourism , etc. ) are carried out in accordance with the management regulations of special use forests and marine protected areas .
* Kon Ha Nung Plateau consists of three zones including the 57,589-hectare core site that comprises Kon Ka Kinh National Park and Kon Chu Rang Nature Reserve, the 152,009-hectare buffer zone and the transition zone of 206,211 hectares.
The World Biosphere Reserve is also known as the 'Roof of Indochina' with the highest peak at more than 1,700 metres.

There are many unique and outstanding features. The fauna and flora in the core zone of Kon Ka Kinh National Park are diverse, and abundant with rare plants and wild animals.
Scientists have recently discovered some endemic species such as chestnut-eared laughing thrush (Garrulax konkakinhensis), and the grey-shanked douc langur (Pygathrix cinerea), which are primates of Việt Nam.
