PM’s WEF Tianjin engagement: Message from a bold, sincere, trustworthy Viet Nam

The Vietnamese leader shared Viet Nam’s inspirational story - a nation thinking big, acting boldly, and embracing transformative reform. This strategy is built on four key pillars – science-technology breakthroughs, private sector development, deep international integration, and legal reform.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has successfully concluded a three-day visit to China, where he attended the 16th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Tianjin city and conducted working sessions, with more than over 30 engagements in total, leaving significant impact both bilaterally and multilaterally.

Viet Nam’s stories captivate attention

The WEF Tianjin 2025 event brought together more than 1,700 delegates from nearly 100 countries, representing governments, businesses, academia, and international organisations. The participants discussed global economic trends, shared challenges, and the public–private partnerships needed for sustainable growth.

PM Chinh took part in a policy dialogue with the President and CEO of the WEF and delivered a keynote speech at a session titled titled "Is Asia's Century at Risk". In his address, the Vietnamese leader shared Viet Nam’s inspirational story - a nation thinking big, acting boldly, and embracing transformative reform. This strategy is built on four key pillars – science-technology breakthroughs, private sector development, deep international integration, and legal reform.

His sharing at the forum conveyed a strong message that Viet Nam is ready for breakthrough growth from mindset and vision to pragmatic action, laying a strong foundation for the country’s next development era – an era of the nation’s rise.

In a press interview on the sidelines of the forum, WEF Interim Chairman Peter Brabeck-Letmathe expressed deep impression of Viet Nam’s economic progress and political stability. He highlighted the establishment of the Fourth Industrial Revolution Centre in Ho Chi Minh City, which strengthens Viet Nam’s relationship with the WEF.

During the debate on Asia, PM Chinh proposed a visionary “five pioneers” framework for a prosperous, resilient Asia. He also introduced two key initiatives for the region’s future - the Asia innovation network and the Asia innovation portal.

Viet Nam expressed its readiness to join these initiatives, calling for support from WEF, China, and international partners to co-develop these regional platforms.

A highlight of the WEF Tianjin meeting was that the Vietnamese PM was the special guest to participate in the national policy dialogue with the WEF leader, underscoring the importance the WEF attaches to both Viet Nam and the PM personally. Early on, delegates queued in long lines to attend this important session. Despite the large venue, the room quickly filled to capacity, and many had to stand outside or watch the session online. Immediately following the dialogue, experts and scholars gathered around the PM to ask questions, engage in discussions, and debate ideas.

The lasting impression of this dialogue was not only focused on Viet Nam's new vision and policy direction for the upcoming development era, the country's experience in building an independent, self-reliant economy closely integrated with the global market, and its foreign policy amid international geopolitical instability, but also on the perspective of putting the past behind, fostering dialogue, finding common ground, and looking towards the future.

PM Chinh emphasised his life philosophy of sincerity, trust, working wholeheartedly, always having faith, and always hoping for a better future.

On this occasion, PM Chinh held bilateral discussions with the WEF Interim Chairman, the WEF President and CEO, the Prime Minister of Singapore, the Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan, the President of Ecuador, and the Prime Minister of Senegal. He also worked with leading global corporations such as Siemens, Pepsi, Cisco, Foxconn, as well as numerous experts and scholars to promote cooperation across all fields.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son said that PM Chinh and leaders of countries agreed on important and practical measures to strengthen their bilateral ties, highlighting new opportunities for cooperation in technology, infrastructure, AI, and semiconductors - fields warmly welcomed by international investors.

Strengthening Viet Nam–China partnership

During his stay in China, PM Chinh held talks with Chinese Premier Li Qiang, attended the Viet Nam-China Business Forum, and had meetings with leaders of Chinese corporations in sectors like science, technology, infrastructure, and construction. He also met with the Vietnamese community, visited historical and economic sites, and explored China’s economic model, including its stock exchanges and the Pudong Exhibition in Shanghai.

Both sides agreed to expedite the implementation of important common perceptions reached by highest leaders of the two Parties countries, especially the Joint Statements released during Party General Secretary and State President To Lam to China in August 2024 and the state visit to Viet Nam by General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2025.

Deputy PM and FM Son noted that the trip expanded cooperation opportunities, deepened understanding, and created practical benefits for both countries. At the Viet Nam-China Business Forum in Tianjin, both nations signed nine agreements in energy, infrastructure, agricultural processing, and digital transformation.

Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh added that discussions also focused on key projects in railway, transportation, and urban infrastructure, with China expressing support for Viet Nam’s proposals, particularly in developing rail links.

PM Chinh’s participation in the WEF Tianjin was widely praised for showcasing Viet Nam’s dynamic, proactive role in global affairs, strengthening the Viet Nam-China friendship and cooperation. Expert Wei Wei from China Central Television emphasised the significance of Viet Nam’s growing stature, citing the Vietnamese PM’s third consecutive appearance at the forum.

The visit conveyed a message of entrepreneurial spirit for a new era, aiming to attract the maximum international resources to serve the country’s development. It also reaffirmed Viet Nam's foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralisation, diversification, and proactive, comprehensive, and deep international integration.

It also marked a milestone in the effective execution of the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Viet Nam and China and the building of a Viet Nam-China Community with a shared future that carries strategic significance, timed with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the launch of the Year of Viet Nam-China Humanistic Exchange./.
