Vietnam and Mongolia friendship organizations issue statement on East Sea
On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Mongolia (November 17, 1954 – November 17, 2014) a delegation of the Vietnam-Mongolia Friendship Association (VMFA) led by Chairman Ho Xuan Hung paid a visit to Mongolia on June 1-6, 2014 at the invitation of the Mongolia-Vietnam Friendship Association (MVFA).
During the visit, the delegation had a meeting with MVFA members, visited School 14, which was named after President Ho Chi Minh in Ulan Bator City, and held a seminar on business development with the participation of businessmen from the two countries.
Attending the seminar, participants emphasized the importance of getting opportunity to strengthen mutual understanding and boost cooperation relations between the two peoples for mutual benefits.
In this occasion, the two friendship organizations also issued a Joint Statement, expressing their serious concern over the current situation in the East Sea after China illegally placed its oil rig Ocean – 981 in Vietnam’s continental shelf and exclusive economic zone.
The statement noted that “unilateral actions by China in the East Sea is a serious violation of the sovereignty, sovereign rights and jurisdiction of Vietnam stipulated by the 1982 UN Convention on Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the 2002 Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC). China’s blatant acts of escalation in the East Sea are causing grave concern to China’s neighbors”.
Mr. Ho Xuan Hung expressed his thanks to MVFA leaders for their hospitality and deep sympathy with the Vietnamese people’s legitimate aspirations for national sovereignty.
