WPC expresses concerns about situation in East Sea

(Vietpeace) The World Peace Council (WPC) released the second Statement expressing its serious concerns about the situation in the East Sea area.

In the Statement, WPC affirms its support for the principles of the United Nations Convention of the Law of the Seas (UNCLOS) of 1982 and calls upon all parties involved to refrain from unilateral actions which could undermine this basis.

WPC calls for actions of de-escalation of the conflict, withdrawal of military and navy from the area in
order to reach a political, amicable solution between the two countries as well as the countries of the area.

WPC also calls upon all peace loving people and forces in Vietnam and China to take all necesary political actions in order to secure peace, stability and friendship in the region.

In the first Statement on May 17th, 2014, WPC Presidium expressed its “solidarity with the demands of the Vietnamese people” relating China’s illegal placement of Haiyang Shiyou 981 oil rig in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf.
