In an interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency, Fernandez emphasised that the "Doi Moi" (Renewal) policy launched by the CPV has played a significant role in the process through the opening of parts of the economy to attract innovation outcomes and foreign direct investment.
He underlined that this solution has revived the country’s economy in all fields, allowing the Government to satisfy people's needs and ensuring the people's happiness.
Fernandez commented that the national reconstruction in Vietnam aims to ensure the country’s national sovereignty and the happiness of its people, which is a good sign for the country’s future.
He held that Vietnam is currently a modern socialist country with strong development, showing great efforts in ensuring welfare and wealth for all people and pursuing a similar goal in the world arena.
The national reunification in 1975 not only resumed independence for Vietnamese people, but also opened up a new development orientation for the country and its future generations, he stated.
Regarding Vietnam's external relations, Fernandez said that Vietnam's activeness in its external relations is one of the reasons why UN member countries have elected it as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council twice.
Last October, Vietnam was elected to the UN Human Rights Council, which is an evidence for other countries' confidence and trust in Vietnam, he went on to say.
Fernandez underlined that Vietnam has always completed its tasks with highest efforts. Amid the current geopolitical tensions, Vietnam's active role in protecting peace and friendship among nations for common interest, as well as its efforts to implement international law and the United Nations Charter is an encouragement for humankind, he said.
Regarding the Vietnam-Canada relations over the past 50 years since the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations, Fernandez asserted that the ties between the two countries are in a good period.
Canadian people supported Vietnam during the war against the American imperialists even before the two countries set up their diplomatic relations. After Vietnam's victory, hundreds of thousands of Canadians have visited Vietnam to see historical sites, experience a long-standing culture and meet friendly people, he said.
Meanwhile, thousands of Vietnamese workers are working in Canada, while tens of thousands of Vietnamese students have come to Canada for studying, which shows a strong connection between the two peoples, Fernandez underscored./.
