New Year’s Day 2026: Viet Nam’s Tourism Makes Impressive Start with 3.5 Million Visitors

During the New Year’s Day holiday of 2026 (from January 1 to January 4), Vietnam’s tourism sector is estimated to have welcomed and served approximately 3.5 million visitors.

The four-day New Year’s Day holiday in 2026 took place under favorable weather conditions across all three regions of the country, contributing to vibrant tourism activities at numerous destinations and attractions. Leading destinations drawing large numbers of visitors included Phu Quoc (An Giang), Da Lat (Lam Dong), Mang Den (Quang Ngai), Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa), Mui Ne (Lam Dong), among others.

Among these, Ho Chi Minh City recorded the highest visitor numbers nationwide, with an estimated 1,240,000 arrivals served, up 65% compared to the same period in 2025. International arrivals were estimated at around 75,726, an increase of 83%; average room occupancy reached approximately 75%; and total tourism revenue was estimated at about VND 2,632 billion.

Ninh Binh Province is estimated to have welcomed and served 723,063 visitors, including approximately 177,974 international arrivals; total tourism revenue was estimated at around VND 795 billion.

Quang Ninh Province is estimated to have welcomed and served 657,000 visitors, including approximately 70,500 international arrivals; overnight visitors were estimated at about 218,000; total tourism revenue was estimated at around VND 1,620 billion.

Lam Dong Province is estimated to have welcomed and served 650,000 visitors, including approximately 30,000 international arrivals; room occupancy rates reached about 70–80%; total tourism revenue was estimated at around VND 1,200 billion.

The capital city of Hanoi is estimated to have welcomed and served 560,000 visitors, an increase of about 250% compared to the same period in 2025. International arrivals were estimated at around 110,000, up approximately 287%; room occupancy was estimated at about 73%; and total tourism revenue was estimated at around VND 2,100 billion, up 254% year-on-year.

Hai Phong City is estimated to have welcomed and served 515,600 visitors, including approximately 12,890 international arrivals.

Khanh Hoa Province is estimated to have welcomed and served 503,900 visitors, including 154,400 overnight visitors; room occupancy reached approximately 66.9%; total tourism revenue was estimated at around VND 648.1 billion.

Lao Cai Province is estimated to have welcomed and served 363,112 visitors, including approximately 32,298 international arrivals; total tourism revenue was estimated at around VND 1,500 billion.

An Giang Province is estimated to have welcomed and served 348,778 visitors, up 52.5% compared to the same period in 2025. International arrivals were estimated at approximately 30,284, up 48.6%; room occupancy reached about 61.6%; and total tourism revenue was estimated at around VND 859 billion, up 71.2% year-on-year.

Hue City is estimated to have welcomed and served 85,000 visitors, up approximately 125% compared to the same period in 2025, including 50,000 international arrivals; room occupancy reached about 60%; and total tourism revenue was estimated at around VND 150 billion, up approximately 166.7% year-on-year.

Regarding inbound tourism (international arrivals), the New Year’s Day period is a peak travel season, during which international visitor numbers continued to rise sharply, mainly from markets such as China, the Republic of Korea, the United States, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore.

Specifically, on the morning of January 1, 2026, Quang Ninh welcomed more than 3,000 international visitors from the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Canada, and Spain aboard the cruise ship Celebrity Solstice; Hue City welcomed 2,680 passengers and 920 crew members on the Adora Mediterranea; Da Nang welcomed multiple flights from Manila (the Philippines), Incheon and Busan (the Republic of Korea), Bangkok (Thailand), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), and Singapore, bringing a total of more than 1,200 international visitors for sightseeing and leisure. From December 30, 2025 to January 4, 2026, approximately 367 international flights arrived in Da Nang; from January 1 to January 4, 2026, approximately 321 international flights arrived in Khanh Hoa.

By the end of January 4, the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism assessed that at tourist sites and attractions nationwide, numerous cultural, artistic, and entertainment events were held vibrantly, creating highlights that attracted visitors for sightseeing and experiences. Many localities organized ceremonies to welcome the first visitors of 2026, demonstrating hospitality, conveying the message of a safe tourism destination, and expressing determination to refresh destination images.

Many localities and travel enterprises launched new products or refreshed existing ones: Hanoi introduced four heritage tourism itineraries (Thang Long’s Four Sacred Temples - Mother Goddess Temples - Ancestral Craft Guild Communal Houses - Hanoi Pagodas), the rural tourism space “Sac hoa Tuong Phieu” in Phuc Tho, the “Ky uc Cot co” (Flag Tower Memories) tour, and the cycling tour “Hanoi dep sound”; tours exploring Moc Chau-Son La-Dien Bien amid white mustard flower fields, plum valleys, and the heroic historical sites of the Northwest region; cloud-hunting tours in Ta Xua-Bac Yen for cloud-sea enthusiasts; and Ho Chi Minh City inaugurated the “12D+ immersive technology-art exhibition and projection complex,” the first multisensory experiential model of its kind in Vietnam.
