General Secretary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka Dr. G. Weerasinghe has affirmed that achievements and victories that Viet Nam has gained under the leadership of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) light up national liberation movements worldwide.
Speaking to Viet Nam News Agency correspondents on the occasion of the 95th founding anniversary of the CPV (February 3, 1930 - 2025), Weerasinghe highlighted the Party’s formation and development led by Nguyen Ai Quoc - President Ho Chi Minh.
The establishment of the CPV marked the end of a crisis in the national salvation strategy of the Vietnamese people, he said, noting under the Party’s leadership, Viet Nam triumphed over Japanese, French, and US forces. Its success during these resistances inspired national liberation movements in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
The CPV has successfully defended the socialist state by making necessary adjustments amidst the collapse of socialist countries in Eastern Europe. Today, Viet Nam has achieved high economic growth rates and significant accomplishments across various fields, including infrastructure, education, housing, health care, transportation, urban development, industry, and agriculture. The living standards have risen in line with the country’s increasing economic growth.
Assessing the CPV’s role in Viet Nam’s renewal process, Weerasinghe noted that the Party has charted the roadmap toward socialism with strategies for building, developing, and protecting the country in the new era, including the socio-economic development strategy for 2021-2030 with a vision towards 2045.
Weerasinghe believed that ensuring political stability and social order in Viet Nam under the CPV's leadership will continue to facilitate socio-economic development, enhancing Viet Nam's position and role both regionally and globally. The Vietnamese people and the international community are optimistic about Viet Nam's future.
He noted that Viet Nam has become one of the fastest-developing countries in the world, hailing its performance in structural transformation. The country has maintained its growth rate at about 7% over the past decade, largely due to production investments. While the factors contributing to this growth are diverse, the country's foreign policy has played a crucial role in mobilising investment and resources, and opening access to foreign markets.
Regarding the fight against corruption and the streamlining of the political system in Viet Nam, Weerasinghe noted that Party General Secretary To Lam has affirmed the commitment to intensify anti-corruption efforts without exceptions or limits.
This is a continuation of policies implemented by his predecessors and represents a very correct approach. Weerasinghe emphasised that the Communist Party of Sri Lanka highly values the determination of the CPV and its leadership in the corruption combat.
Weerasinghe affirmed that political stability, social order, and the improved living standards, along with continuous improvements in critical infrastructure, are essential aspects for Viet Nam to progress smoothly on the path to socialism. In the context of the complex international and regional landscape, Viet Nam’s bamboo diplomacy will be extremely beneficial in managing these complexities.
The Communist Party of Uruguay (CPU) affirmed that the Communist Party of Viet Nam(CPV)'s heroism and determination have inspired revolutionists across the globe.

On this occasion, the Vietnamese Party organisation in Cuba paid a floral tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his statue in Havana.
Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Bui Xuan Phong stressed that the establishment of the CPV on February 2, 1930 marked an historic turning point for not only the struggle of the Vietnamese working class and peasantry but also the nation's revolutionary movement and the revolutionary process across Southeast Asia.
Over the past 95 years, the CPV has upheld its leadership role in the country’s revolutionary process, guiding the Vietnamese people to victory, complete unification, and now into a new era – that of the nation’s rise, he added./.
