The Executive Committee of Vietnam-Morocco Friendship Association, term I (2021-2026)
Morocco and Vietnam have a good historical bilateral relationship since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1961. On December 13, 2021, in Hanoi, the Vietnam-Morocco Friendship Association, the 117th member organization of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations was officially established, marking a new milestone in promoting relations between the two countries.
Task of promoting friendly exchanges between the two countries
On December 13, in Hanoi, the founding congress of the Vietnam-Morocco Friendship Association took place. The congress elected Phan Tam, deputy minister of Information and Communications to hold the position of President of the Vietnam-Morocco Friendship Association, term I (2021-2026).
In addition to officially putting the Association into operation, the delegates discussed and determined the direction and content of the Association's activities in the first term of 2021-2026. Under the direction of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, the Association will coordinate with the Moroccan Embassy in Vietnam, the Vietnamese Embassy in Morocco, relevant agencies, ministries and branches, and the Morocco-Vietnam Friendship Association to implement the activities.

"The Vietnam-Morocco Friendship Association will have an important task, contributing to the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations to well implement the foreign policy set forth by the 13th Party Congress. That is building a comprehensive and modern diplomacy; contributing to “maintaining a peaceful and stable environment, mobilizing external resources for national development, enhancing the country's position and prestige; contributing to the development of friendship and cooperation between the two peoples," said Nguyen Quang Khai, member of the Central Committee of the Vietnam-Morocco Friendship Association.
The Association will further promote the relationship and regular exchange of information with the Morocco-Vietnam Friendship Association, the Moroccan Embassy in Vietnam. In particular, the Association takes advantage of expanding relationships with reputable organizations, individuals and activists of Morocco to create favorable conditions for the Association's activities.
The Association will also promote friendly exchanges between the two countries through organizing cultural, economic and educational exchanges on the occasion of the two countries' major holidays. It will act as a bridge for localities, businesses, research institutes, universities of Vietnam and Morocco to share information and experiences.
New development step in friendship, and people-to-people exchanges between Vietnam and Morocco
Speaking at the congress, Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga, president of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations expressed her belief that the cooperation between Vietnam and Morocco will become stronger and more developed through the Association's activities.
"After establishing official diplomatic relations, Vietnam and Morocco have exchanged delegations at all levels, signed treaties and agreements, and promoted cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, culture, education, building cooperative relationships between localities of the two countries. The Morocco-Vietnam Friendship Association was also established. The establishment and operation of the Vietnam-Morocco Friendship Association is a new development step in the friendship, and people-to-people exchanges between Vietnam and Morocco. The Association will be a bridge to promote exchange and cooperation activities in the fields of politics, economy, culture and trade between the two peoples" said President of Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga.

Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga expected that the Vietnam-Morocco Friendship Association is a new association that will have new activities with rich content and forms. Agreeing with the direction and tasks set out by the Association during the first term, President Nguyen Phuong Nga also added some additional comments, namely:
After the Congress, the Association needs to quickly establish relationships, use information technology to keep close relationships, regularly exchange information and experiences to jointly implement people-to-people exchange activities in accordance with the actual situation and possible capabilities.

It needs to cooperate with the Vietnamese Embassy in Morocco and the Moroccan Embassy in Vietnam; active in research, flexible and creative in all forms of activities.
Empathy in the past is the foundation for the future
Speaking at the Congress, Jamale Chouaibi, Moroccan Ambassador to Vietnam said: Cooperation between Morocco and Vietnam has made positive progress, sharing a rich historical heritage, demonstrating in common values, laying solid foundations for a prosperous future between the two countries, overcoming geographical and cultural barriers.

"I would like to affirm the Embassy's determination in supporting the Vietnam-Morocco Friendship Association in any way possible to build a solid partnership with the Morocco-Vietnam Friendship Association. The Embassy will coordinate with the Vietnam-Morocco Friendship Association in organizing seminars and events with the participation of scholars and businesses to achieve the common goal of strengthening and further expand our partnership," Moroccan Ambassador to Vietnam said.
To strengthen people-to-people exchanges, Jamale Chouaibi hopes that the two countries will jointly launch decentralized cooperation by encouraging twinning between cities, seaports, universities and other specialized institutes. Many projects have been and are being implemented such as twinning between Ho Chi Minh City and Casablanca, Da Nang and Tangiers, Nha Trang and Agadir.

Speaking at the closing of the Congress, Phan Tam, deputy minister of Information and Communications, president of the Vietnam-Morocco Friendship Association, term I, hopes and believes that the Association will receive attention and support of relevant agencies, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, and the embassies of the two countries. This is so that the Association can successfully complete the directions and tasks set out by the Association, contributing to fostering and further developing the friendship between the two peoples of Vietnam-Morocco; serving the interests of the two peoples, contributing to the preservation of peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
