On the afternoon of April 19, at the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) headquarters, the founding congress of the Vietnam-Nepal Friendship Association in the first term (2022-2027) took place. At the congress, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Truong Hai Long announced Decision No. 64/QD-BNV on allowing the establishment of the Association.
The association is a social organization, organized and operated in accordance with the Charter approved by the Minister of Home Affairs. The association complies with the provisions of law, is under the State management of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other ministries and branches related to the Association's activities.
The delegates elected the Association's Executive Committee consisting of 27 members. Former Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Tran Anh Tuan was elected as President of the association for the 2022-2027 tenure
The congress agreed that the association would work with VUFO to well implement the foreign policy set forth by the 13th Party Congress. That policy is to build comprehensive and modern diplomacy; contributing to “maintaining a peaceful and stable environment, mobilizing external resources for national development, enhancing the country's position and prestige; contributing to the development of relations and cooperation between the two peoples.
Association President Tran Anh Tuan said that the relationship between Vietnam and Nepal has a long history. The establishment of the association has great significance, contributing to enhancing friendship, understanding and cooperation between the people of Vietnam and Nepal.
The association will expand and gather members of all genders, classes and Vietnamese citizens who wish to join the association. Through the association's activities, the people of the two countries have the opportunity to enhance mutual understanding. This contributes to strengthening cooperation activities in politics, economy-trade, culture and tourism between Vietnam and Nepal.
VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga said that the establishment and operation of the association is a new development step in the friendship, cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between Vietnam and Nepal. The association will act as a bridge and strengthen exchanges and cooperation in friendship, economy, culture, trade and tourism between the two peoples.
According to Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga, the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Nepal stems from the similarities in historical and cultural values, and influences of Buddhist teachings.
This is an important bridge connecting the people of the two countries. Therefore, the association needs to foster these advantages to carrying out friendship activities, contributing to cooperation in all fields with Nepal.
The association needs to develop an action plan during the term, focusing on coordinating with departments, branches, and organizations that have relations and experience with Nepal, such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and a number of multilateral organizations are members of VUFO, such as the Vietnam Peace Committee.

The association also needs to establish a close relationship and coordination with the two Vietnamese embassies in India concurrently Nepal, and the Embassy of Nepal in Thailand concurrently with Vietnam. Through these channels, the association seeks, establishes networks, and builds partnerships with Nepal's civic organizations.
The association also needs to work closely with other bilateral friendship organizations of Vietnam and countries in Asia-Africa. They need to research, and creatively organize activities, develop the association's organization, and introduce the image of the country and people of Vietnam to the people of Nepal and other countries in the region.
