Vietnam supports dialogue and human rights cooperation in Myanmar, Iran and Korea
Ambassador Nguyễn Trung Thành, head of the Vietnamese delegation to the UN Office, the WTO and other international organizations in Geneva, Switzerland, spoke at the discussion on Myanmar.
The ambassador welcomed the efforts and commitments of Myanmar on the economic and political reform, democratization, national reconciliation and the continuity of enhancing the guarantee and acceleration of human rights. Vietnam highly appreciated the efforts of the Human Rights Council in particular, the UN system and the international community in general in their efforts to support Myanmar in this historical stage.
Vietnam stressed that the international community should continue to cooperate with Myanmar on the basis of respecting the sovereignty and independence of Myanmar, reflecting the mutual respect and conducting constructive dialogue and sincere cooperation in order to consolidating and promoting the achievement recorded by Myanmar in the process of democratization, national reconciliation, economic development, guarantee of human rights, especially the disadvantaged social groups.
Ambassador Nguyen Trung Thanh expressed his belief that Myanmar has had the right direction on the way to peace, security and prosperity. The Ambassador affirmed the good will and efforts of Vietnam in support to Myanmar to raise the quality of life and boost the protection of the people’s human rights. Vietnam is ready to share experience on the national reconstruction, the economic and social development, international and regional integration.
At the session on the human rights situation of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, the Vietnamese representative stressed that the relevant sides should be persistent in conducting constructive dialogues, sincere cooperation so as to be able to find out the long, suitable solutions in order to improve the situation on the spot in particular and the issues on the Korean Peninsula in general. Vietnam believed that the immediate priority is to be given to focusing on the settlement of humanitarian issue, particularly the issue relating to the people’s right to food, to access to education and health, particularly women and children and the kidnapping issue.
The representative of Vietnam welcomed the efforts and commitments of the new Government in Iran, believing that the recent encouraging agreements on the country’s Energy Program with the relevant parties promise to open up a new cooperation stage between Iran and the world, making a contribution to enhancing security and peace in the region. Vietnam welcomed the serious commitment of Iran and hoped that Iran and the relevant parties will continue the cooperation to consolidate and expand the recorded achievements.
It is planned that the Human Rights Council will continue to discuss and negotiate the draft Resolution relating to the guarantee and enhancement of human rights in a number of countries before it concludes on March 28, 2014./.
