Nearly 30 delegates from 15 countries attended the event. In her opening remark, VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga said that the Paris Peace Accord signed on January 27, 1973, was among the important events in Vietnam's history. This is the result of the unyielding and invincible struggle of the Vietnamese army and people on political, military, and diplomatic fronts and international friends' support and goodwill.
Along with the efforts to overcome war consequences, the Doi Moi and international integration initiated and led by the Communist Party of Vietnam have brought about great achievements of historical significance. Vietnam has developed strongly, people's living standards have been improved, national defense and security have been maintained, foreign relations have been expanded, international integration has been deepened, and international prestige and position have been consolidated and enhanced.
"Thanks to the activities on the 50th anniversary, we are more aware of the historical value of the Paris Peace Accord, we understand the enduring precious values of compassion and sentiment among people and strength of solidarity, determination to fight for justice and peace," said President Nguyen Phuong Nga.
At the event, the delegates exchanged memories of supporting the Vietnamese people during the Paris Peace Conference.
With the Paris Peace Accord 1973, with the spirit of national self-determination, and the support from friends all over the world, Vietnam has overcome many challenges and reached great achievements under the wise leadership of the Communist Party. Vietnam is now a rising economic power in the region and an active party in global politics. Chap Sotharith believes that through this event, the spirit of the Paris Peace Accord will be remembered and continue to be a model for other conflict resolution in the world.
