The Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations and the city's Viet Nam - Laos Friendship Association on November 29 held a meeting to celebrate the 49th anniversary of the Lao National Day (December 2, 1975 - December 2, 2024) and the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the city's Viet Nam - Laos Friendship Association (1984-2024).
Speaking at the meeting, Head of the Internal Affairs Committee of HCM City Party Committee Ngo Minh Chau, who is also chairman of the city's Viet Nam - Laos Friendship Association, emphasized that in 1984, the friendship association was established to maintain and develop the fine traditions of the two parties and two peoples, as well as effectively carry out the people-to-people diplomacy of HCM City with the provinces/cities of Laos.

Along with that, it contributes to enhancing the exchange of understanding between the Vietnamese and Lao peoples, consolidating and developing the special relationship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, for the benefit of the people of the two countries, for peace, cooperation and development in Southeast Asia and the world.
Over the past 40 years, the HCM City's Viet Nam - Laos Friendship Association has made great contributions to fostering the Viet Nam - Laos relationship in the city named after beloved Uncle Ho; numerous meaningful and practical activities aimed at supporting and connecting the community have been organized.
Annually, the municipal Viet Nam - Laos Friendship Association organizes delegations to visit, give gifts, and provide free medical examinations and medicine to people in difficult circumstances in provinces in Laos.
Also at the meeting, Lao Consul General Phonesy Bounmixay highlighted the relationship between Laos and Viet Nam which has been strengthened and deepened in all fields, bringing practical results to both countries.
Bounmixay highly appreciated the cooperation and support of the municipal Party Committee, Government, businesses and people for Laos in general and its twinning localities in particular.
HCM City has established friendly and cooperative relations with four localities of Laos including the capital Vientiane, provinces of Savannakhet, Champasak and Huaphan. Every year, HCM City and Lao localities exchange delegations at all levels to visit and learn from each other's experiences.
