Dr. Vu Hoai Chuong receives Hungary's Knight Cross Order

Vu Hoai Chuong was honored to be awarded the Hungary Order of Merit Knight Cross, the noble award of the Hungarian State in recognition of his contributions in promoting Hungarian culture and education.

On the occasion of the visit of Hungarian President Tamás Sulyok to Viet Nam, on May 28 in Hanoi, the ceremony to award the Hungarian Order of Merit Knight Cross to Dr. Vu Hoai Chuong took place.

According to Hungarian law, this state medal was awarded at the request of the Prime Minister and approved by the President. This is the recognition of the Hungarian state for the persistent and great contributions of Dr. Vu Hoai Chuong in the popularization of the Hungarian language and the development of Vietnamese-Hungarian culture and education.

Specifically, Dr. Vu Hoai Chuong and his colleagues compiled two dictionaries. The first book is "Hungarian-Vietnamese scientific vocabulary" for Vietnamese students in Hungary, published by Budapest Textbook Publishing House in 1967. This book was reprinted three times and in 1967 was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Minister of Higher Education of Viet Nam. The second book is the Hungarian-Vietnamese Dictionary, consisting of two volumes, published by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences Publishing House in 1974. In 1974, this book was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Minister of Higher Education of Viet Nam and the Minister of Culture and Education of Hungary.

A former student in Hungary, Dr. Vu Hoai Chuong, taught Hungarian at the Hanoi University of Foreign Languages ​​(now Hanoi University). He has been an active member of the Viet Nam-Hungary Friendship Association since 1995, and held the position of Vice President of the Association for the period 2008-2020. During his career, he has made many positive contributions to strengthening the friendship and cooperation between the two peoples.

Over the years, the Hungarian Order of Merit with different ranks has been awarded to several Vietnamese people who have been assessed for their exemplary activities in the fields of culture, science, and art, as well as other areas of expertise aimed at advancing the interests of Hungary and enhancing the common good of humanity.

Veteran translator Le Xuan Giang, researcher, literary theorist, translator; Dr. Truong Dang Dung, translator; Dr. Giap Van Chung and Prof. Bui Minh Phong are familiar names who have been awarded the State Order of Hungary for outstanding contributions in the field of introducing and promoting the cultural and artistic values of Hungary to the world.
