The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association had a meeting and discussion with Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Phankham Viphavanh in Hanoi on Jan. 8.
The Vietnamese delegation attending the meeting consisted of President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations Nguyen Phuong Nga, President of the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association Tran Van Tuy, and representatives of various organizations.
The Laos delegation included Lao Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh; Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister, Defense Minister General Chansamone Chanyalath; Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Planning and Investment; Chairman of Laos-Vietnam Cooperation Committee Sonexay Siphandone; Politburo member, Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith; and Minister, Chairman of the Government Office Khamjane Vongphosy.

The meeting took place in an atmosphere of friendship and mutual understanding. President of Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association Tran Van Tuy said that the association had cooperated closely with its counterpart in Laos to hold many meaningful, effective, and practical activities.
Thereby, the two have contributed to the joint effort of both parties, states, and peoples in strengthening the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.
The Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association is constantly developing its organizational structure and activities. It has established bases in nearly 50 provinces, cities, ministries, and agencies of Vietnam.
The association has branches in each province and city and many members of different professions and social classes.
Most of the universities and colleges that have Lao students are the association's members and are put under the direct leadership of Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association branches in the localities.
Friendship organizations of the two countries have closely coordinated activities of various forms to strengthen the solidarity between the two peoples, spread Vietnam - Laos' friendship to the public, educate the young about the special relations, and promote their roles as bridges cooperation in all fields.
Seminars are held among veterans, former experts, volunteer soldiers, and students in Vietnam and Laos to help cadres, pupils, and students better understand the history of revolution, the closeness between the two peoples, and leaders of the two countries.
Lao Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh said that the Lao Party and State attached great importance to activities of the friendship associations of both countries.

Such associations are a bridge to connect peoples of the two countries. They need to inherit the good traditions laid down by Presidents Ho Chi Minh, Kaysone Phomvihane, and Xuphanuvong and have worked hard to build and promote traditional bonds.
Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh said he believed that with the support of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, the President of Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association Tran Van Tuy would develop the association's activities and create new breakthroughs, and initiatives, especially in the Vietnam - Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year, in 2022.
Tran Van Tuy said that he would continue the association's work, especially in the new pandemic situation.
