The 8th conference of the VUFO Presidium term V was held in Hanoi on September 6 to review the VUFO’s performance as well as set the directions for term V (2013-2018).
The conference also elected new Vice Chairman, Mr. Bach Ngoc Chien was elected with a high 82 votes out of the total 84 VUFO presidium members.
VUFO Chairwoman Nguyen Phuong Nga highlighted results of the 10-year implementation of Directive 28-CT / TW on the continuation of renovation and improving the operational efficiency of the Friendship Union.
According to her, in the first 6 months of 2019, the political and security situation in the world and the Asia-Pacific region continued to have many complicated fluctuations. In this context, the the Party and the State’s foreign affairs, people-to-people diplomacy continued to be carried out synchronously, gaining important results on both bilateral and multilateral channels. Notably, Vietnam officially won the election to become a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2020-21 term with 192/193 votes, highest in the UN history, reflecting Vietnam's increasing position and international prestige.
The people's external affairs of the VUFO, the Fatherland Front and mass organizations have been actively implemented comprehensively with many significant, practical and positive activities for general foreign affairs of the country, contributing to the cause of national construction and defense.
At the meeting of the VUFO presidium, participants affirmed that the VUFO will continue preparing for the sixth National Congress scheduled for October 2019; strengthening its standing board members; implement the external plan of the VUFO; encouraging foreign non-governmental assistance in localities, and actively carry out projects supported by foreign non-governmental organisations (NGOs). In particular, the VUFO will focus on organizing the 4th international conference on cooperation between Vietnam and NGOs in the fourth quarter of 2019./.
