Presenting the insignia to the ambassador at a ceremony in Hanoi, VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga said the medal aims to honour the Spanish Ambassador’s remarkable contributions, over the past three years, to promoting the friendship, solidarity and cooperation between the two countries’ people.
During more than three years of working in Vietnam, Ambassador María Jesús Figa López-Palop has contributed positively to the promotion of Vietnam-Spain's extensive strategic partnership. She has worked to bolster bilateral cooperation between the two countries in all fields of economy, politics, culture and society, as well as actively supporting the cooperation between businesses of the two countries towards sustainable development in Vietnam.
She is an experienced diplomat with extensive knowledge of the law, Nga added. She actively supported and contributed practically in cooperation between the two countries in the field of law, especially gender equality and women's empowerment.
In particular, the ambassador attaches great importance to strengthening relations with the people's organizations, and joined hands with the Vietnam-Spain Friendship Association to organize many practical activities to help promote exchanges and cultivate the friendship between between two peoples.
In the field of public relations, she focused on strengthening and promoting good relations with the people's organizations such as the Vietnam-Spain Friendship Association and its member organizations. She coordinated with the aforementioned organizations to organize events on important occasions such as "World Tapa Day", the National Day of Spain, visiting Hoa Sua Economic - Tourism Intermediate School where many needy and handicapped children are vocationally trained free of charge, then giving them the opportunity to make a living from their new found skills, etc.
The VUFO President expressed her belief that in any position, the ambassador will make further contributions to bilateral friendship and partnership.

She also voiced her belief that with a solid foundation, bilateral relations will continue to flourish across all fields.
The diplomat pledged that in any position, she will continue to work to reinforce and develop the friendship, solidarity and cooperation between the two countries and peoples upon returning home.
Vietnam and Spain have reaped significant benefits since setting up diplomatic relations in 1977, in particular after ties were elevated to a strategic partnership in 2009.
In April, Vietnam also presented Spain with 110,000 antibacterial cloth masks worth 70,000 USD.
There are about 2,000 Vietnamese living in Spain, with 600 being students. In May, the Vietnamese Government has sent nearly 1,500 antibacterial cloth face masks to the Vietnamese community in Spain./.
