On the morning of November 8, in Hanoi, President of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations Phan Anh Son welcomed a delegation from the German Friendship Group with Viet Nam.

At the meeting, President Phan Anh Son discussed with the delegation about cooperative and friendly relations between Viet Nam and Germany, Viet Nam’s developmental achievements, and the functions, responsibilities, organizational structure, and partner network of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations.

President Phan Anh Son stated that over 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the cooperative relationship between Viet Nam and the Federal Republic of Germany has developed positively, becoming increasingly comprehensive, effective, and in-depth. In recent years, two-way trade turnover has ranged between 11 and 13 billion USD, and Germany ranks 18th out of 143 countries and territories investing in Viet Nam.

Vibrant cooperation spans trade, science and technology, culture, education, tourism, and charity. Besides, the large Vietnamese community spread across Germany has fostered strong people-to-people exchanges.

President Phan Anh Son provided the delegation with basic information about Viet Nam's development process. Viet Nam has gone through many years of colonization and war, and in 1975, Viet Nam reunified. In 1986, Viet Nam implemented its renovation policies aimed at building a socialist-oriented market economy. After nearly 40 years of reforms, Viet Nam has achieved many significant accomplishments, particularly reducing the poverty rate from 67% (in the 1980s) to just 2.58%.

Viet Nam has adopted a broad international integration policy based on independence, peace, friendship, cooperation, development, diversification, and multilateralism. Viet Nam is a good friend and a reliable partner to countries around the world, and a responsible member of the international community. Currently, Viet Nam maintains positive relations with 193 United Nations member states, 142 parliaments, 253 political parties in 115 countries, participates in over 70 regional and global multilateral cooperation mechanisms, and has thousands of partners through people-to-people exchanges. The German Friendship Group with Viet Nam is one of these partners.

Representing the delegation, Mr. Repp Wolfgang expressed deep admiration for Viet Nam’s policies and development. The Communist Party of Viet Nam has implemented sound policies and strategies, leading the country to progress and achieve great achievements as seen today.

During the meeting, the delegates raised questions about Viet Nam's policies, such as the "bamboo diplomacy," which attracts and manages foreign investment in Viet Nam, relations between Viet Nam and Cuba, and the activities of German political funds and NGOs in Viet Nam.
