Dong Huy Cuong emphasized that cooperation with veteran organizations from the United States is an important task in Vietnam's people-to-people diplomacy. According to the joint statement on upgrading Vietnam - United States relations to a "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace, Cooperation, and Sustainable Development," the country's top leaders commended close cooperation to overcome the consequences of war. It is considered a priority in bilateral relations that contributes to the building of mutual trust and understanding.

The host proposed that the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations and VFW work together to develop programs to support victims of Agent Orange, organize exchange activities between the Vietnamese and American youth, and so on. The activities will help American people learn about the country and people of Vietnam and open up cooperation opportunities in the fields of education, research, and tourism.
In response, VFW Junior Vice Commander-in-Chief Carol Whitmore, head of the delegation, stressed that, from former enemies to trusted partners, Vietnam and the United States partnership, which has been consolidated significantly, is a model of the modern bilateral relationship with in-depth initiatives. In the coming time, VFW will actively exchange cooperation ideas with the host to contribute to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
Founded in 1899, the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States (VFW) is a nonprofit veterans service organization. VFW consists of eligible veterans and military service members from the active, guard, and reserve forces, operating to ensure veterans' benefits in terms of medical care and social welfare. |
