Leaders of the Hanoi Union of Friendship Organizations (HAUFO) and the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Association of Hanoi on the morning of August 22 visited the Cuban Embassy in Hanoi to share with the Cuban Ambassador about difficulties and losses that the Cuban people are experiencing due to the impact of the massive blaze at an oil storage facility in Cuba’s Matanzas Industrial Park.

On this occasion, HAUFO Permanent Vice President Tran Thi Phuong handed over an amount of EUR 3,800 to support the Cuban people, contributing to overcoming current difficulties. This is the affection and contribution of the officials, employees and staff of the HAUFO and the members of the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Association of Hanoi to the Cuban people.

Previous, the Thai Binh Corporation on August 19 also donated USD 100,000 to help Cuba address the aftermaths of the an unprecedented industrial accident.

A cheque of the amount was presented by head representative of Thai Binh Corporation Tran Thien Minh to Cuban Vice Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment Déborah Rivas Saavedra.

Minh said his company also plans to donate food and other necessities to families of victims.

Déborah, for her part, expressed deep gratitude for the Vietnamese firm’s move, saying it is very practical to Cuba at present.

She took the occasion to thank the Government and people of Vietnam for standing by the side of Cuba, noting that it once again reflects the strong solidarity and friendship between the two peoples.

Within only a week, many Vietnamese organizations and people have raised fund for Cuba. Among them were the Vietnam Women’s Union, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO), the central Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association, and the club of Vietnamese alumni once studied in Cuba.

VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga on August 15 met Cuban Ambassador Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen at the Cuban Embassy in Hanoi and expressed sympathies with Cuban people affected by the inferno.

VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga handed over EUR 1,000 to help Cuban people ease difficulties.

On the occasion, Nga handed over EUR 1,000 raised by VUFO’s officials and staff to help Cuban people ease difficulties.

Last August 5, an electrical discharge hit one of the Cuban crude oil deposits at the Matanzas Supertanker Base, which generated a severe fire which has killed 16 people and injured 132 others. The blaze, the worst in Cuba’s history, was put out after five days.
