The then Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh presented the President’s second-class Labour Order to the Vietnam – Russia Friendship Association for its excellent performance in 2020.
On May 23, 1950, the Vietnam – Soviet Union Friendship Association was founded, marking a milestone in the friendship between the two peoples. The Vietnam – Russia Friendship Association was established on Dec. 19, 1994. Since then it has worked to foster bilateral ties in areas including economy-trade, tourism, education and training, science and technology.
This year, due to the complex development of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Vietnam-Russia Friendship Association organized commemorative activities online.
For the Vietnam - Russia Friendship Association in 2021, two major events will be organized including the 15th summary meeting of activities in Quang Binh and the sixth National Congress, term 2021-2026 in the fourth quarter of 2021. It is hoped that Covid-19 will be controlled as it has pushed back so that many aspects of social and economic life, including the activities of the Vietnam - Russia Friendship Association.

The Vietnam – Soviet Union Friendship Association was established while Vietnam was conducting a resistance war against the French colonialists to protect the independence and fledgling government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
On Jan. 14, 1950, President Ho Chi Minh announced the Declaration of Independence of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam to governments all over the world, stating: "The Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam is the rightful government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Based on common interests, the Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam is ready to establish diplomatic relations with any government which is willing to cooperate on the basis of equality and mutual respect of national sovereignty and territory so as to defend world peace and democracy.”
The state's diplomatic victories have created favorable conditions for people-to-peole diplomacy.
When the Vietnam - Soviet Union Friendship Association was established, marking, the first president of the Association was Ton Duc Thang, who played a key role in forming and building the precious tradition of the Vietnam-Soviet friendship.
On the basis of continuing with the goals and tasks of the Vietnam - Soviet Union Friendship Association, the Vietnam - Russia Friendship Association was founded in 1994. The association's activities are carried out with a view to onsolidating and developing chapters in localities and agencies and units; promoting socialization, creating necessary resources for association work; implementing rich and specific action programs, especially those that contribute to promoting economy-trade, tourism, education and training, and science and technology between Vietnam and the Russian Federation.
It has also attracted youth engagement and increased the younger generations’ knowledge of the tradition and potential of Vietnam-Russia relations.
