Reporter: What about the result of his visit to Cuba and Haiti?
Deputy Minister Ha Kim Ngoc: For the two traditional friend countries in Latin America, the visit by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung created a new breakthrough, lifting the relations and making the cooperation more profound, effective and practical.
For Cuba, the visit helped to increase the relationship between the two countries to a new height. The mutual trust between the two countries was increased through frank and practical exchange, similarities in the assessment of international and regional issues, as well as open sharing of experiences in renewal and the building of socialism.
The signing of medium-term bilateral economic agenda and the clearing up of difficulties opened up prospects in telecommunications, biological technology, pharmacy cooperation and addressed existing financial problems. The deep and practical step in the cooperation relation was reflected in the results of the working meetings among ministries and enterprises, the signing of diverse agreements on medical, industrial, agricultural, information and communications, construction, security and defence cooperation. According to the Cuban National Assembly President, the visit to Cuba by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung came at the most suitable time.
In Haiti, a country that had enthusiastic and precious support for Vietnam’s struggle for national independence and construction, and now a new partner in economic, trade and investment areas, Vietnam successfully implemented telecommunications cooperation and rice export, contributing to help Haiti ensure food security for 10 million people and rapidly and efficiently develop the telecommunications infrastructure of most advanced level in the Central American – Caribbean region. The first visit to Haiti by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung opened up wider and more profound cooperation in many areas, including power production, oil and gas, garment and textile, mining, medical, construction, fisheries and tourism, right after the country faced urgent need for national rebuilding after the severe earthquake in 2010.
The Central American – Caribbean region consists of 20 countries with over 80 million people. Vietnam has many traditional friends with fine political relations in the region. However, apart from Cuba, Vietnam did not have remarkable economic and trade relations with the others. Therefore, cooperation with Haiti is considered an initial breakthrough, then making condition to expand economic, trade and investment cooperation to the whole region. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and the delegation was moved when Haitian leaders many times showed their gratitude to Vietnam when Vietnam came to the country in its difficult time. In addition, the Haitian President and Prime Minister considered this a model of south-south cooperation; and the President wanted to visit Vietnam in the early time./.
