Both countries share common values of patriotism and peacemaking and are more closely linked by the idea of fighting for national liberation. This close relationship has been laid the foundation by President Ho Chi Minh and Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, then cultivated by generations of leaders and people of the two countries.
Notably, since the establishment of the strategic partnership in 2007 and upgrading to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2016, cooperation between the two countries has become more and more substantive and effective in all five pillars: politics and diplomacy; defense and security; commerce and economy; science and technology; education, training, culture and people-to-people cooperation.
