New lily variety unveiled to mark 50 years of Vietnam-Netherlands relations

On the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam-Netherlands diplomatic relations establishment, a new lily variety named Sutudo (Red Lion), hybridized by Onings Holland Flowerbulbs, was introduced.

In early November 2023, a working group from Lam Dong, Dong Thap, and Son La, flower farm owners, and scientists from Vietnamese scientific research and training facilities came to the Netherlands to work with Dutch partners in the floricultural research and training industry.

On this occasion, a new lily variety hybridized by Onings Holland Flowerbulbs was officially named Sutudo. For many years, Onings Holland Flowerbulbs has been in Vietnam, cooperating and exporting flower bulbs and efficiently supporting Vietnamese partners.

To celebrate 50 years of Vietnam-Netherlands diplomatic relations, the naming ceremony was performed by Ingrid Korving, Dutch Agricultural Counselor in Vietnam, and Vo Thi Ngoc Diep, Commercial Counselor, Dutch Embassy in Vietnam. Sutudo is expected to hit the market in 2026.

Vietnam-Netherlands cooperation, particularly in the sector of cultivating flowers and ornamental plants, has a firm base, opening up many opportunities in the future. The area for growing flowers, ornamental plants, and ornamental flowers in Vietnam is 45,000 hectares, with Lam Dong serving as the primary production area.

The Embassy of the Netherlands in Vietnam, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), the Netherlands - Vietnam Horti Business Platform (NVHBP), and the Dutch Greenhouse Delta organized the business trip to share knowledge, explore potential partnerships, and increase cooperation in sustainable horticulture for both countries.

At the Netherlands-Vietnam Floriculture Conference, delegates presented remarks to emphasize the two countries' capabilities and the collaboration opportunities in the field of flower and ornamental plant growing, as well as promoting investment and trade opportunities in Lam Dong, Dong Thap, and Son La.

Last year, within the framework of the official visit to the Netherlands, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh paid a visit to the World Garden Center. During his visit, the Prime Minister underlined Vietnam's commitment to collaborating with Dutch partners to address agricultural difficulties.
