President Ho Chi Minh's Legacy in Milan: Friendship Bridge Connecting Viet Nam and Italy

On the morning of April 13 (local time), as part of his official visit to the Republic of Italy, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and his spouse, Nguyen Thi Thanh Nga, visited the Antica Trattoria della Pesa restaurant in Milan. The venue preserves special traces of President Ho Chi Minh from the 1930s and serves as a meaningful symbol of friendship and connection between Vietnam and Italy.

The Antica Trattoria della Pesa restaurant, located at 10 Pasubio Street, was once home to President Ho Chi Minh, where he lived, worked, and met with comrades from the Communist International as well as Italian friends during the 1930s. In front of the restaurant, a stone plaque erected by the Milan city government in 1990 to mark the centenary of his birth affirms that this was a place he frequently visited while dedicating himself to the struggle for Viet Nam’s independence and freedom.

Inside, numerous artifacts and spaces connected to President Hồ Chí Minh are carefully preserved. Among them is the “Hồ Chí Minh Room,” which houses a full-body bronze statue gifted to Milan by the Vietnamese government in 2012, along with photographs and documents about Viet Nam. Today, the restaurant serves as a meaningful destination for Vietnamese and international delegations seeking to learn more about the life and career of President Hồ Chí Minh.

During the visit, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with members of the Italy-Viet Nam Friendship Association in Milan. He affirmed that after more than 50 years of diplomatic relations and over a decade of implementing the Strategic Partnership, Viet Nam-Italy relations have recorded many positive achievements, with strengthened political trust and expanding cooperation in economics, trade, investment, and tourism.

The Chairman emphasized that Viet Nam’s development successes are inseparable from the support of international friends, including Italy. He noted that Viet Nam has always valued the assistance and solidarity of the Italian people, both historically and in its current development journey.

Highly appreciating the role of the Italy-Viet Nam Friendship Association, the Chairman described it as a key force in promoting people-to-people exchanges and contributing to the maintenance and growth of bilateral relations. He encouraged the Association to further expand its activities, strengthen connections, foster cultural cooperation and exchanges between the two peoples, and pay greater attention to supporting the Vietnamese community in Italy.

Roberto Cocevari, President of the Italy-Viet Nam Friendship Association in Milan, affirmed that the Association will continue to promote cultural exchange and friendship, thereby contributing to greater mutual understanding and cooperation between the two countries.

The visit to the historical site commemorating President Ho Chi Minh in Milan underscores the deep historical foundations of Viet Nam-Italy relations and highlights the importance of people-to-people diplomacy. Friendship associations, in particular, play a vital role in consolidating and further developing bilateral ties.
