Russian Scholar Pyotr Tsvetov And His Special Books

Russian scholar Pyotr Tsvetov preserves books by Vietnamese revolutionary veterans such as books on the fundamental formation of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, or on the Russian October Revolution and Viet Nam.

As a former correspondent for Pravda, the First Deputy Chairman of the Russia-Viet Nam Friendship Association, and a lecturer at the Diplomatic Academy, Pyotr Tsvetov has a long-standing connection to Viet Nam.

In a recent interview on the occasion of the 79th National Day of Viet Nam(September 2, 1945 - 2024), the former reporter for the newspaper “Pravda” (Truth) of the Russian Federation Communist Party from 1991-1993 gave his evaluation on contributions by leaders of the Communist Party of Viet Nam(CPV), highlighting achievements of the Doi Moi (renewal) process initiated by the CPV in 1986.

He talked about his latest article published in the newspaper, “Hanoi's bamboo diplomacy policy," which asserts the value of the policy in helping Viet Nam build extensive and reputable international relations and gain prestige and trust in the international arena.

Tsvetov said that in addition to teaching at the Diplomatic Academy under the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he continues to write articles for Pravda.

More than a month ago, at his house, the man considered by long-time Vietnamese correspondents in Moscow as an "expert for generations of Vietnamese journalists" gave sharp assessments of late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in an interview with correspondents from Viet Nam News Agency, Viet Nam Television (VTV), and Nhan Dan newspaper.

Tsvetov then affirmed that late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is a prestigious leader and a sharp theorist, who made great contributions to the theory of building socialism in Viet Nam.

As the First Deputy Chairman of the Russia-Viet Nam Friendship Association, Tsvetov has also attended almost all meetings and people's diplomatic events of high-ranking Vietnamese leaders when they visited the Russian Federation, which is why Vietnamese correspondents always seek him out for comments and opinions.

Tsvetov, who is also First Vice President of the Russia-Viet Nam Friendship Association and lecturer at the Department of International Relations of the Diplomatic Academy under the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, shared about interesting books kept in his suburban house, including works by two Vietnamese veteran revolutionary figures who participated in the international communist movement, on fundamental formation of Ho Chi Minh's thought, values, spirit, and traditions of the Vietnamese People, and the Russian October Revolution and Viet Nam.

Having once served as a full-time correspondent for Pravda in Hanoi, Tsvetov recounted his encounters with esteemed Vietnamese figures. He shared stories of his interactions with Professor Tran Van Giau and Academician Nguyen Khanh Toan, the latter of whom he met after retirement and once in Tashkent during a conference on national policy, and the 60th anniversary of the Soviet Union.

Among his special books, Tsvetov has also preserved a collection of writings and speeches by the late Party General Secretary Le Duan.

His collection of books on Viet Nam also includes volumes of speeches and documents from the 3th, 4th, 5th, and 6th National Congresses of the CPV.

Reflecting on his days as a Pravda correspondent in Hanoi during challenging times, particularly after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Tsvetov expressed gratitude for the support he received from Nhan Dan newspaper and his Vietnamese colleagues. He recalled instances where the Danang branch of Nhan Dan provided him with accommodation, transportation, and insights into Viet Nam's development. Similar assistance was extended to him by the Ho Chi Minh City branch.

Tsvetov also shared unforgettable memories about securing advertising from the Vissan food processing company, which significantly contributed to maintaining the activities of Pravda's office in Ho Chi Minh City.

On the occasion of Viet Nam's National Day, Tsvetov offered his assessment of the country's Communist Party leaders.

In the 21st century, leaders of the Communist Party of Viet Nam(CPV) not only state that they are guided by Marxist-Leninist ideology but also consistently realize tasks, whether large or small, to build a civilized and prosperous Vietnamese society based on the approaches and principles established by President Ho Chi Minh, said Pyotr Tsvetov, Russian researcher on Vietnamese studies, who has spent many years working in Vietnam.
