(Vietpeace) On February 17, 2014, the Okinawa “Peaceful Tourism 2014” Delegation delegation led by Lawyer Yamada Junji was received by Mr. Nghiem Vu Khai, Chairman of the Vietnam - Japan Friendship Association (VJFA) at the headquarters of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations.
The delegation consists of 15 members of the Okinawa – Vietnam Friendship Association and 15 others from Fukushima Prefecture.
At the reception, Mr. Khai warmly welcomed the delegation to have a working visit to Vietnam. The two sides briefly exchanged the current situation of Vietnam and information about Japan after the Tsunami in March 201, as well as the relationship between the two countries.
Regarding the 2011 Tsunami, Mr. Yamada Junji expressed his gratitude for Vietnam’s assistance. “It is my great honor to visit Vietnam and have chance to talk to you today. I would like to express my sincere thanks for the great support and assistance of the Vietnamese people to Japanese people who suffered the severe disaster in March 2011”, he said.
Mr. Yamada Junji also mentioned two major issues: the Vietnamese trainees in Japan and the Fukushina nuclear plant disaster.
After what undesirably happend to Vietnamese trainees, it necessary to have a system of information for foreign workers and a union of workers being equal to administrative boards of companies to ensure rights of the workers. This is a lesson learnt from the incident happening to the Vietnamese trainees in Fukushima.
The causes of the Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster was also objectively pointed out. After this disaster, the safety in nuclear power manufacturing was highlighted by both sides. He wished that the cooperation in the projects of nuclear power development between Japan and Vietnam would be closer and more developed.
Mr. Nghiem Vu Khai said that Japan and Vietnam had good cooperation in the project of building nuclear power plant which would be estimatedly completed next years. However, all the issues on nuclear power need to be approved by the Vietnam National Assemby, he affirmed. Vietnam always wishes to have cooperation with Japan in economic development, and confirmed that Japan is a strategic partner, while sustainable development, environmental protection and safety are of the top concerns.
Also, the meeting saw the presence of representatives from Haiku Club in Hanoi. On behalf of the Club, Chairman Dinh Nhat Hanh presented the Japanese people and the delegation poems expressing the strong spiritual encouragement to the Japanese people after the Tsunami in 2011.
At the end of meeting, the two sides reaffirmed the close cooperation between Vietnam and Japan and wishes of a better and more profound friendship relation in particular between Vietnam and Okinawa.
