The conference saw the presence of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Binh, former Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; Mr. Mohammed Obaid Jebur Al-Maswadi, Chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Vietnam, the Embassy’s staff, representatives of Ministries, State Agencies and businesses having relations with Iraq.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Khai, former Ambassador of Vietnam to Iraq was elected VIFA Chairman.
At the conference, Mr. Khai, on behalf of the Executive Board, made report on activities of VIFA in the last years and its orientations in the coming time.
According to the report, due to the unstable situation in Iraq, since the VIFA’s establishment on May 25th 1984, VIFA has faced difficulties in implementing its activities.
Under the guideline of the Party and State’s foreign policy, the status quo of the Vietnam – Iraq relations, VIFA is in need of consolidating and strengthening its organization. The Embassy of Iraq is regarded as a VIFA’s partner. VIFA will proactively coordinate with the Iraqi Embassy to organize exchange activities of culture, economics, education, youth, and receive Iraqi delegations in the fields of culture, economics, education, health care… to Vietnam.
Mr. Obaid Jebur Al- Maswadi expressed his delight at the re-operation of VIFA, extended congratulations to Mr. Nguyen Quang Khai as new Chairman of VIFA, and affirmed his collaboration with VIFA to strengthen activities and promote relations between Iraqi governmental agencies, NGOs, civil societies and VIFA.
Mr. Obaid Jebur Al- Maswadi expected VIFA will achieve big successes during the tunure, contributing to consolidation and development of the two countries’ relations.
