Nguyen Phuong Nga, President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO), on March 24, attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the project to build rural traffic bridges and friendship houses for households have difficult circumstances in Dong Thoi commune, Cai Nuoc district, Ca Mau province.
The work is to celebrate the fourth congress of the Union of Friendship Organizations of Ca Mau, sponsored by the Korean NGO, The Corea Peace 3000.
Accordingly, the project will build four bridges in Cai Nuoc district, U Minh district and 25 friendship houses for disadvantaged people in Cai Nuoc and Phu Tan districts, costing more than VND 1.1 billion (USD 48 100).
Speaking at the ceremony, VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga said that the project aims to celebrate the congress of the Ca Mau Union of Friendship Organizations.
The event marked the starting point of implementing the resolution of the new term. She added that it was a meaningful activity on the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Korea.
VUFO President Nga highly appreciated The Corea Peace 3000's support in assisting and helping the locality and wished the organization would continue to accompany Ca Mau in poverty reduction and new-style rural construction.
"Hopefully, the people who receive these meaningful gifts will strive to rise in life. Meanwhile, the bridges will make the way to school more convenient for students, contributing to the construction of a rich and beautiful homeland," said the VUFO leader.
According to Nguyen Thanh Hung, representative of the office of The Corea Peace 3000 in Ca Mau, understanding the needs and pressing difficulties of Ca Mau province, the organization has mobilized domestic and foreign voluntary organizations and individuals to gather funds for such programs and projects in Ca Mau, especially in Cai Nuoc district.
"In 2021, we coordinated to implement the project of building two bridges and 30 friendship houses. In the first phase of 2022, the organization funded other four bridges and 25 houses. After the commencement, the organization will coordinate with the Ca Mau Union and relevant local authorities on the project and continue to survey to support the following projects soon," Hung said.

At the event, the Red Cross Association of Cai Nuoc district, Rau Dua Church and The Corea Peace 3000 mobilized donors and voluntary organizations to give welfare gifts (including rice and instant noodles) to 10 poor households and 15 gift packages (including notebooks, learning tools and milk) for disadvantaged students with outstanding academic achievements.
Earlier on March 23, VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga and the delegation had a working session with the Standing Party Committee of Ca Mau Province.
Receiving the delegation were Nguyen Tien Hai, Secretary of the Ca Mau Provincial Party Committee, chairman of the Provincial People's Council, and leaders of several local departments and branches in the province.
In 2016-2021, the project's aid budget was more than VND 249 billion (USD 10.8 million), but only VND 100 billion (USD 4.3 million) has been disbursed. The Secretary of the Ca Mau Provincial Party Committee asked VUFO to connect and support Ca Mau on programs and projects to develop new rural areas sustainably and extensive training for officials on project mobilization.
