VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga presents presented an emulation flag to the Hai Duong Union.
Twenty years ago (February 19, 2002 - February 19, 2022), Hai Duong Union was established with the function of performing people-to-people diplomacy and mobilizing foreign non-governmental aid. This is an important organization in the foreign relations system of Hai Duong province, which is under the leadership of the Provincial Party Committee and People's Committee, and a member of VUFO and the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee.
Highlighting Vietnam's people-to-people diplomacy's achievements in recent years, including the contributions of Hai Duong and its provincial friendship union, VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga praised the contributions and dedication of the leaders and officers of the Union; the close direction and favorable conditions created by the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Fatherland Front Committee and other departments, agencies and mass organizations.
In order to further improve the quality of Hai Duong Union's activities, Nga emphasized that in the coming time, Hai Duong Union and its members need to consolidate and improve their professional qualifications and skills, foreign language proficiency; popularize people-to-people activities, attract the participation of locals, especially young people and businesses.
"We hope that the Hai Duong Union will continue to make efforts to improve the quality and efficiency of operations, expand the network of partners, strengthen the friendship with the peoples of other countries, and effectively mobilize external resources to serve the sustainable development of the province", said Nga.
Also at the event, Vice Chairman of Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh Hung asked Hai Duong Union to pay attention and fully absorb the profound instructions of VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga, and immediately concretize it into the program work.
Hung also affirmed that the province will create all favorable conditions for Hai Duong Union to promote its role in people-to-people diplomacy and mobilize foreign non-governmental aid in order to promote relations and cooperation, mobilize resources to realize the province's socio-economic development goals.
Despite being negatively affected by Covid-19 pandemic, the province made a spectacular breakthrough, GDP growth was estimated at 8.6% in 2021, exceeding the set plan.
Furthermore, peace and friendship activities have been actively carried out by the Hai Duong Union with the people of Laos, Russia, France, Germany, the Republic of Korea (RoK), the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), Japan, Australia, Cambodia, Cuba, Italy and China, thereby building an image of Hai Duong - a land of talented people, rich in cultural and historical traditions, possess great potential for development, contributing to strengthening Vietnam's friendship with other countries.
Foreign non-governmental work has been focused on and implemented effectively. More than 124 projects with a total aid capital of approximately USD 6.95 million (about VND 160 billion) made practical contributions to the solving of social problems, poverty reduction as well as community capacity improvement. Hai Duong Union has made great strides in organizational development, from five associations has grown to 12 bilateral and multilateral associations, gathering many enthusiastic, qualified, and experienced staff and members.
Since its establishment, Hai Duong Union has worked with over 20 foreign organizations, calling for hundreds of projects worth hundreds of billions of Vietnam dong.
On this occasion, VUFO awarded certificates of merit to six groups and 10 individuals; commemorating the medal "For peace and friendship among nations" to five individuals for their positive contributions to people-to-people diplomacy.
In addition, Hai Duong People's Committee also awarded certificates of merit to three individuals who have made outstanding achievements in people's diplomacy activities and foreign non-governmental aid mobilization.
After the celebration, Hai Duong Union also held a presidium meeting to elect Nguyen Duc Tuan, chairman of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee to join the Presidium and hold the position of president of the Hai Duong Union term 2018-2023.
