Professor Bui Minh Phong, a typical intellectual of the Vietnamese community in Hungary has just been awarded the Hungarian Order of Merit Knight Cross, the noble award of the Hungarian State in recognition of his contributions in the fields of mathematical research, scientific cooperation and education.
The awarding ceremony to Professor Bui Minh Phong was recently conducted at the Celebration House, Budapest within the framework of a series of activities to celebrate the Hungarian National Day (August 20).
Eszter Vitályos, the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation awarded the Hungarian Order of the Knight Cross to Prof Bui Minh Phong.

According to Hungarian law, this Order of Merit is awarded at the recommendation of Prime Minister Orbán Viktor and signed by President Novák Katalin, and is a recognition of Prof Bui Minh Phong's great contributions in the field of law. more than 37 years of teaching and research at Eötvös Loránd University.
Professor Bui Minh Phong was born in 1953 in a family of seven siblings in Huong Thuy commune, Huong Khe (Ha Tinh province) and grew up during the fierce war.
From his high school years, he soon showed a special talent in Mathematics and attended the mathematics class at Vinh Pedagogical University.
After passing the university entrance exam with excellent scores, in 1971, he was sent to Hungary to study at the Pedagogical School named after President Ho Chi Minh in the city of Eger.
During his university years, he not only participated and won the first prize three times in math competitions, but also researched scientific research and wrote three highly regarded articles.
In 1976, he received the János Bolyai Mathematical Society's Kató Rényi Memorial Prize, for outstanding performance as student in scientific research.
After graduating, in 1976-1978, he attended a postgraduate training course at Hanoi National University of Education and graduated with distinction, then was sent to teach at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education.
In 1985, he returned to Hungary to practice science and successfully defended his doctoral thesis in 1986. He was asked by his country to stay and study and work at the University of Budapest in 1992, defended Doctor Habil's thesis in 2013 and was appointed Professor by President Áder János in 2016.

Besides teaching, Prof. Bui Minh Phong has more than 120 research works, most of them published in prestigious mathematical journals. Not only actively participates in international math conferences, working in many schools around the world, and organizing math conferences, he is also passionate about the development of mathematics and mathematics education in his homeland.
He has had many opportunities to return home to teach and lead many delegations of Hungarian mathematicians to work with Vietnamese schools and institutes.
The Hungarian Order of Merit is also a worthy reward for Prof Bui Minh Phong's role as a bridge for cooperation and association between Hungarian and Vietnamese universities for many years.
In addition to teaching and research, during 1995-2017, Prof Bui Minh Phong was also an active and enthusiastic member of community activities, having held the positions of General Secretary and Vice President of the Association. Vietnamese Association in Hungary. He has retired since February this year when he turned 70 years old, but is still enthusiastic about professional activities.
Sharing his feelings after receiving this noble award, Prof Bui Minh Phong said that he was very happy that his efforts to contribute to improving the image of Vietnamese people in the process of integration in your country have been recognized.
