At the meeting, the two sides appreciated the results of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in 2017 and extended in 2019.
The two sides will continue to cooperate and strengthen the areas mentioned in the letter of intent signed under the witness of senior leaders of the two countries.
The areas include building a scheme to support social enterprises, building a network of social enterprises sponsored by Singapore International Foundation (SIF) and the Vietnam-Singapore Friendship Association; a volunteer cooperation project; and continuing the SIF-ASEAN scholarship program.
The two sides also agreed to jointly develop a plan to organize events on the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2023.
On behalf of the Presidium of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, the President of the Vietnam-Singapore Friendship Association Vu Viet Ngoan awarded the medal "For peace and friendship among nations" to Ong Keng Yong, president of SIF and Jean Tan, executive director of SIF to acknowledge positive contributions in SIF activities.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Ong Keng Yong, president of SIF, said: “I am very honored to be awarded the medal 'For peace and friendship among nations" by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations."
"Singapore and Vietnam have enjoyed good bilateral relations for many years. I am delighted that SIF has played a part in this, namely through collaborative projects aimed at building friendship at the people-to-people level. Together, we have made tremendous progress in building a better world.”
Jean Tan, executive director of SIF, said: “I am honored to receive this noble award, on behalf of many Singaporean volunteers and partners, who have devoted their time, energy, and wisdom to help us grow internationally and build peace."

The Singapore International Foundation is a non-profit organization, with the aim of building a long-term, sustainable relationship between Singapore and the international community. SIF's activities are based on the principle of connecting the people of different countries through efforts to share ideas, skills and resources to promote effective cooperation in health, education, environment, art, culture, livelihood and business. Over the past 30 years, SIF has had projects in more than 28 countries, and brought practical benefits to millions of people. Under the direction and management of Ambassador Ong Keng Yong, president of SIF, and Jean Tan, executive director of SIF, SIF has promoted many projects in Vietnam, contributing to strengthening relations between the two countries in health, culture, education and people-to-people exchanges. Since 1994, SIF has coordinated to organize many projects with organizations and individuals in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in healthcare, education and culture, art. In healthcare, SIF's international volunteer specialists have provided advanced training for Vietnamese healthcare professionals. SIF has trained about 60 Vietnamese specialists, helping treat more than 1,500 patients each year. In 2018, SIF launched a three-year hemodialysis care project in Hanoi, in cooperation with Hanoi Medical University to improve the overall quality of hemodialysis care in Northern Vietnam. As of today, this project has trained more than 130 healthcare professionals and is expected to benefit more than 5,000 kidney patients in the region. |
