Viet Nam Peace Committee: 75 years of connecting Viet Nam with the World Peace Movement

From the years of war to the era of deep integration, the Viet Nam Peace Committee has consistently served as a bridge between the Vietnamese people and peace-loving forces worldwide, making positive contributions to people-to-people diplomacy and enhancing the country's international standing.

On the afternoon of December 30, in Hanoi, the Viet Nam Peace Committee celebrated its 75th anniversary. Attendees included Mr. Pham Tat Thang, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Information, Education and Mass Mobilisation; Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoang Van, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Central Agencies; Mr. Phan Anh Sơn, President of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations; Mr. Uong Chu Luu, President of the Viet Nam Peace Committee; along with leaders and former leaders of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations, members of the Presidium and Secretariat of the Viet Nam Peace Committee from various periods.

In his speech, President of the Viet Nam Peace Committee Uong Chu Luu expressed his deepest and most sincere gratitude to the leaders and former leaders of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations, generations of leaders, members of the Presidium, and staff of the Viet Nam Peace Committee over the years, as well as representatives from various ministries, departments, localities, friends, and partners who attended and sent congratulatory flowers.

Mr. Uong Chu Luu recalled the historic milestone of 1950 when the Viet Nam Peace Committee was established amidst the nation's prolonged and arduous resistance against French colonialists, defending the young independence achieved after the August Revolution of 1945.

Throughout 75 years of development, the Committee has made significant, enduring contributions, leaving prominent and profound marks in the history of Viet Nam's people-to-people diplomacy.

During the national liberation struggle, the Viet Nam Peace Committee became an important diplomatic front, actively participating in the global peace movement, denouncing invasive wars, and rallying progressive and peace-loving people worldwide, as well as international organizations, to support the just struggle of the Vietnamese people.

In the era of peace, unification, and renewal, the Viet Nam Peace Committee continues to affirm its role as an active and responsible member of the global peace movement, contributing to strengthening a peaceful environment, promoting friendship, cooperation, and mutual understanding between the Vietnamese people and the people of other countries.

“We solemnly remember and express our profound gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh, the great leader of the nation, who laid the foundation for people-to-people diplomacy and the Viet Nam Peace Committee. His thoughts, vision, and legacy on peace, friendship, and international solidarity will forever be a guiding light and compass for all activities and directions of the Committee.

We sincerely thank the leaders of the Party, State, Viet Nam Fatherland Front, and the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations for their continuous leadership, guidance, and support, enabling the Viet Nam Peace Committee to fulfill its mission, contributing to the cause of building and defending the nation.

We also express our deep gratitude for the immense, invaluable, and steadfast support and assistance from international friends, progressive forces, and peace-loving people worldwide who have always stood by, shared with, and supported the Vietnamese people in the struggle for national liberation, unification, as well as in the construction and defense of the nation,” shared the President of the Viet Nam Peace Committee.

The 75th anniversary of the Viet Nam Peace Committee is not only an occasion to reflect on historical milestones and past achievements but also an opportunity to draw valuable lessons and deeply contemplate today's responsibilities and future missions.

Over the years, the Viet Nam Peace Committee has persistently advocated for universal values such as the right to live in peace, human rights, justice, and equality, opposing war, arms races, and weapons of mass destruction, while contributing to protecting Viet Nam's legitimate interests on the international stage through peaceful means, dialogue, and cooperation.

According to Mr. Uong Chu Luu, in its 75 years of operation, the Committee has drawn many profound and long-lasting lessons: steadfastness in the goals and principles of peace linked with national independence and socialism; closely adhering to the foreign policy of the Party and State, combining people-to-people diplomacy with Party and State diplomacy to create a comprehensive strength in Viet Nam's foreign affairs; taking the people as the foundation, international solidarity as strength; continuously innovating content and methods of operation, adapting to the rapidly changing and complex international context, while promoting the role of knowledge, youth, and social forces in peace activities.

In the context of profound, rapid, complex, and unpredictable global changes, the Committee will focus on enhancing external information and communication, expanding cooperation with peace organizations, social organizations, and youth both domestically and internationally, emphasizing training and nurturing the next generation, while promoting technology application, improving research, forecasting, and advisory effectiveness, contributing to protecting national interests in the new context.

In the spirit of solidarity, the delegates shared memories, expressed gratitude for the enduring contributions of previous generations, and affirmed the common aspiration to foster sustainable peace in the new context.
