70 years have passed since the Dien Bien Phu Victory, 49 years after the day the South was completely liberated, and 36 years after the first promulgation of the Foreign Investment Law. Viet Nam has risen from the ashes of war to become a key factor in the global supply chain.

Alicia Corredera, Vice President of the Cuban Institute for Friendship with Peoples (ICAP), made the above comment in a conversation with Viet Nam News Agency reporters in La Habana in the context of Vietnamese people celebrating Dien Bien Phu’s Victory Day.
Corredera studied in Viet Nam in the 70s and has followed every step of the country’s development ever since. She remembered back in 1975 when she and hundreds of Cubans took to the streets with their homeland's musical instruments to join the Vietnamese people in celebrating Victory Day.
“We headed towards Hoan Kiem Lake. We sang, laughed, and cried with joy. We rejoiced as if Viet Nam's victory was our own," she said emotionally.
Cuba, through the Cuban Committee for Solidarity with South Viet Nam, has fought for many years to make Vietnamese war history widely known to international friends. Representatives of the Committee have participated in thousands of international events condemning massacres and crimes against the Vietnamese people.
The best intellectuals and experts in Cuba have actively contributed to denouncing crimes occurring in Viet Nam. Filmmakers like the late director Santiago Álvarez, journalists like Marta Rojas, lawyers, economists, and many others have spoken out to denounce the damage caused by the wars.
Alicia Corredera was pleased to see that unity and peace have opened up many opportunities for international cooperation for Viet Nam. Initially, most foreign direct investment projects in Viet Nam focused on two main areas: textiles and garments and footwear. Now, the country is developing rapidly in the value chain and become an important electronic product assembly center in the world.
Besides, Viet Nam's foreign policy is increasingly expanding, with many achievements widely recognized in the region and the world. From a country heavily devastated by war, Viet Nam has made many incredible achievements over the years.
Today, Viet Nam produces not only enough rice to be self-sufficient but has also become one of the world's leading exporting countries. Coffee exports and many other economic sectors are also very successful, contributing to the development of the country’s economy.

"Vietnamese people are happy at the prosperity of their country," she said and expressed that Viet Nam's aspiration to become a developed country by 2045 will come true.
Looking back on the past journey of the strong relationship between Cuba and Viet Nam, the Vice President of ICAP highlighted that this bond was formed from difficult times that each country had to face. When Viet Nam was devastated by war, Cuba assisted and supported the country's reconstruction.
When Cuba fell into an economic crisis, Viet Nam sent tons of rice, school supplies, toys, and many other donations to Cuba. That special friendship continues to develop strongly based on a foundation of trust, understanding, and mutual respect.
On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory (May 7, 1954-May 7, 2024) and the 49th anniversary of the liberation of the South and unification of the country (April 30, 1975-April 30, 2024), Alicia Corredera sent congratulations to the Vietnamese people via Viet Nam News Agency.
She also reminds the young generation of Viet Nam to remember the nation's heroic past and cherish the sacrifices of the nation to bring freedom to the country.
