The event was co-hosted by the HCM City Union of Friendship Organisations (HUFO) and the Vietnam-Poland Friendship Association with the aim of showing the friendship and solidarity with Polish people.

Chairman of the Vietnam-Poland Friendship Association Nguyen Dang Cuong highlighted the historical significance of the Constitution, the first of its kind in Europe and second in the world adopted, carrying progressive concepts and democratic ideas that put the power of the dynasty under the supervision of an organisaiton – the precursor of the later concept of parliament.

Poland was one of the earliest countries to recognise and establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam. The European country supported Vietnam in wartime as well as in the cause of national defence and building, he said.

More than 4,000 Vietnamese students and officers were trained in Poland, serving as a bridge to nurture the friendship and traditional relations between the two countries, he added.

Polish Ambassador to Vietnam Wojciech Gerwel emphasised that both countries have had time-honoured friendship and have been carrying out effectively cooperation in various fields such as trade, science, education and culture.

The Vietnamese community in Poland is one of the largest communities in Europe, helping enrich the culture and economy of Poland, he said.

Poland is the biggest trade partner of Vietnam in the East-Central Europe with two-way trade reaching 3.3 billion USD in 2018, up nearly 1 billion USD from the previous year.

Besides trade, Vietnam and Poland also have cooperative relations in the fields of education, restoration of cultural and historical relic sites, and cultural exchanges, he added./.
