Promote cooperation and partnership between Malaysian Melaka and Vietnamese Hoi An

President of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) Nguyen Phuong Nga met Malaysian Ambassador to Vietnam Dato' Tan Yang Thai and Melaka's tourism delegation, who were on a visit to Vietnam. The delegates agreed to promote twining partnership between Melaka and Hoi An.

According to Ambassador Tan Yang Thai, Melaka (the capital of Melaka state) is an ancient city recognized by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage in 2008 and an attractive destination for international tourists, including the Vietnamese. The Malaysian tourism industry has just launched "Melaka Tourism Year 2024" to introduce and honor Melaka's rich and diverse cultures and festivals.

The Malaysian Ambassador wishes to coordinate with VUFO to promote people-to-people connection between the two countries, especially in the field of culture and tourism. He asked VUFO to support the delegation of Melaka to visit some places in Vietnam to enhance people-to-people exchanges and promote tourism. He hoped that Melaka could be twinned with Hoi An, as the two cities share multiple similarities.

VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga said that in the current context, the role of people-to-people diplomacy is significant. Vietnam and Malaysia can push collaboration in this respect.
