Attending the event were Mr Vu Xuan Hong, President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO); Mr Andrew Holt, First Secretary of the British Embassy in Vietnam; representatives from ministries, and central agencies; representative of VUFO’s departments; and delegates from the Vietnam-UK Friendship Association nationwide.
At the Congress, Chairman Hoang Van Dung reported the results of VUFA’s operations in the 2nd tenure, and orientation and work plan for the 2013-2018 period.
Fully aware of the importance of people-to-people diplomacy, VUKFA has held many friendship and cooperation activities. VUKFA, with its effective operations, has contributed to enhancing people-to- people relations in general and the friendship and cooperation relations between Vietnam and the UK in particular.
In the coming tenure, VUKFA will continue to implement its traditional frienship activities on the occasions of major holidays of Vietnam and the UK; to promote friendship activities and information exchanges with partners; to renovate the forms of operation…
Addressing at the Congress, Mr Vu Xuan Hong appraised VUKFA’s efforts on foreign dissemination and mobilization for supporting the Agent Organge victims in Vietnam. He also hoped that VUKFA and its network will have more contributions to the development of solidarity, friendship and cooperation relations between peoples of Vietnam and the UK.
On behalf of VUKFO, Mr Hong awarded a laudatory writing with the words “The Vietnam – UK Friendship Association with excellent achiements in people-to-people diplomacy in the 2008-2013 tenure” to VUKFA, “For Peace and Friendship among Nations” medals to 5 outstanding members, Certificates of Merit to 3 other member associations and 5 individuals.
Mr Andrew Holt, on behalf of the British Ambassador, congratulated the Congress for its success and believed that the Vietnam-UK Friendship Association will have more activities to pratically contribute to enhancing mutual understandings between the two peoples.
The Congress elected a 40 - member Executive Board for the 2013-2018 tenure. Mr Hoang Van Dung, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) was re-elected as VUFA Chairman.
