A total of 15 Lao outstanding students who made excellent results during their studies in many universities in Hanoi have been praised by the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association (VLFA) at a ceremony held on November 25.
Attending the ceremony were Ta Minh Chau, former Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Communist Party’s Central Commission for External Relations, VLFA vice chairman; Lieutenant-General Le Van Han, Chairman of the Vietnam Martyr Families Support Association and VLFA vice chairman; Major General Huynh Dac Huong, Head of the Communication Commission for Vietnamese Voluntary Soldiers and Military Experts in Laos; Assoc. Prof. Bounlath Lathipanya, Counselor for Culture and Education in the Laos Embassy in Vietnam; Duong Thi My Binh, Director of the Vietnam - Laos Connection JSC and representatives from the Foreign Ministry and the Central Commission for External Relations.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ta Minh Chau commended hard-working and outstanding achievements by Lao students in Vietnam that has formed a solid basis for Laos’ young generation to follow their successors in preserving the great tradition of friendship, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
Vietnam has provided a special assistance to Laos in human resource training. From the 1990s to the present, the number of scholarships for Lao students has been consistently increasing with 907 scholarships granted in 2014. Besides the government scholarships, many other grants also come from various agencies, international organizations, provinces of Vietnam and from the companies investing in Laos. Currently, 7,782 Lao students study in many universities and academies of Vietnam.
On behalf of Lao students in Vietnam, Tou Ny Chan Tha Vong, a student from the University of Commerce expressed her profound gratitude to the government and the people of Vietnam, who have created good learning conditions for Lao students, and to friends and people of Vietnam who offer them warm hospitability.
Thanks to the study and research in Vietnam, Lao students obtain more knowledge on the Vietnam-Lao friendship. They understand their duty and roles in inheriting, preserving and promoting the golden friendship between the peoples of the two countries.
The VLFA and the Vietnam – Laos Connection Joint Stock Co have handed gift worth 2 million Vietnamese dong for each of the 15 outstanding Lao students in Vietnam for their excellent academic performance.
