Vietnam-Cambodia friendship association holds national congress
Marking the 40th anniversary of its foundation, the Viet Nam – Cambodia Friendship Association (VCFA) has held the 4th National Congress for the 2015-2020 tenure on January 22, 2015 in Hanoi.
Former General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Le Kha Phieu, Member of the Politburo and Minister of Public Security General Tran Dai Quang, Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly Huynh Ngoc Son, President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) Vu Xuan Hong, representatives from the Party’s commissions and ministries, members of VCFA’s central and provincial chapters, leaders of Asian and African friendship associations and local media have attended the event.
Deputy Secretary-General of the Office of the Cambodian Royal Government and Deputy Chairman of the Cambodia – Vietnam Friendship Association (CVFA) Vann Phal, Cambodian Ambassador to Vietnam Hul Phany, embassy staff and Cambodian students were also presents at the event.
Over 40 years of growth and development, VCFA has made great achievements, actively contributing to the consolidation and development of traditional ties of friendship, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
Adhering to its Chapter’s principles and purposes, VCFA has regularly organized various activities with practical and profounding contents that worked well on people-to-people diplomacy and served as a bridge to mobilize and promote cooperation activities in various fields of cooperation. Programs of tutoring and sponsoring Cambodian students studying in Vietnam, sending medical staff to Phnom Penh and district of Russey Keo to offer health check-ups, medicine, and handouts to the local habitants… conducted by VCFA are highly appreciated by the two sides’ parties and governments. The association also pays much attention to the reward activities in favor of Vietnam volunteers who sacrificed their lives for Cambodia’s liberty as well as for the Cambodian citizens who helped Vietnam in the wartime.
Speaking at the Congress, on behalf of Vietnam’s Communist Party and the State, Minister Tran Dai Quang warmly praised the achievements of VCFA. He welcomed and thanked CVFA, which has actively collaborated with VCFA in people-to-people activities, greatly contributing to consolidation and development of the friendly relations between the two countries.
Minister Tran Dai Quang affirmed that the traditional bonds of friendship and special solidarity between Vietnam and Cambodia are invaluable asset of the two peoples, serving an important factor in the struggles for independence, construction and development of the two countries. In the context of complicated affection from a changing world to both Vietnam and Cambodia, the protection of Vietnam - Cambodia solidarity is the responsibility of organizations and peoples of the two countries, including the friendship associations.
The minister expected the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Associations to continue to promote achievements at all levels, making worthy contribution to consolidating and strengthening the traditional friendly relations and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia. VCFA should continue its sponsorship to encourage and assist Cambodian students studying in Vietnam. Furthermore, friendship associations with Cambodia at provincial level should multiply the model of cooperation, he said.
Mr. Vann Phal recalled and thanked the valuable assistance of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts in saving Cambodians from the genocidal catastrophe. The Cambodian people always bear in mind the support, assistance and sentiment extended by Vietnamese volunteers.
Mr. Vann Phal highlighted the social and economic achievements achieved by the Cambodian people and looked forward to more cooperation in all fields between the two countries. He also expressed his pleasure at the development and close cooperation between the two countries' friendship associations.
The 4th National Congress of VCFA approved the report on its activities during the 3rd tenure, and the orientation and tasks in the 4th tenure, along with the amended charter of the association. The congress elected a 138-member Executive Committee and Mr. Vu Mao was re-elected Chairman of the VCFA.
Chairman Vu Mao expected delegates, leaders and all members of VCFA along with its member organizations at all levels to properly grasp the congress’ resolution and early make and effectively implement the action plans.
In recognition of the achievements and contributions of VCFA, on behalf of the Communist Party and the State, General Tran Dai Quang awarded VCFA the 3rd Class Labour Order and the government’s certificate of merit.
On behalf of the State of Cambodia, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Cambodia Hul Phany conferred the Friendship Medal of the First Class on four VCFA members.
At the ceremony, 9 member organizations and 25 individuals were awarded VUFO’s Certificate of Merit and 31 member organizations and 61 individuals received VCFA’s Certificate of Merit. In the same evening, delegates and guests attended a gala dinner celebrating the 40th anniversary of VCFA and the success of the congress.
