On June 1 morning in Hanoi, Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga, President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) received Nikorndej Balankura, Thailand Ambassador to Vietnam, who has just come to Vietnam to take on his new position.
The event was also attended by Ta Quang Ngoc - President of the Vietnam - Thailand Friendship Association and Nguyen Viet Loan - General Secretary of the Vietnam - Thailand Friendship Association.
At the event, VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga welcomed Ambassador Nikorndej Balankura to take on his new position in Vietnam. She wished the Thai ambassador a successful working term, in which he could positively contribute to further strengthen Vietnam - Thailand's relations. On this occasion, Nga introduced to the Thai ambassador the functions, tasks, and activities of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and the Vietnam - Thailand Friendship Association.
Nguyen Phuong Nga said that on the 45th anniversary of Vietnam - Thailand relations (August 6, 1976 - August 6, 2021), VUFO planned to coordinate with the Vietnam - Thailand Friendship Associations in different localities to hold many activities such as the Vietnam - Thailand International Conference and Photo Exhibition in Da Nang; second Vietnam - Thailand People's Friendship Festival in Can Tho; a workshop named "Improving the effectiveness of Vietnam - Thailand people-to-people diplomacy" in Thua Thien Hue. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic's complicated developments, it is necessary to think of other options on the events' scales and forms.

Sharing further information about the activities of the Vietnam - Thailand Friendship Association, Ta Quang Ngoc - the association's president said that as a bridge between the people of the two countries, over the past years, the association together with Thailand - Vietnam Friendship Association had held many practical and meaningful activities in terms of friendship exchange, trade cooperation, culture.
The two associations have also coordinated to hold many conferences, forums, trade promotion programs. They also support poor Vietnamese students to study in Thailand.
"We have very close cooperation between the two associations: the Vietnam - Thailand and the Thailand - Vietnam, for a long time...We have planned many meetings but because the pandemic has last for nearly two years, we had to change to online meetings," Ngoc said. In the coming time, he hoped that the association can meet and discuss with the Thai ambassador about activities to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the two countries' relations.
For his part, Ambassador Nikorndej Balankura expressed his respect and appreciation for the role of VUFO in Vietnam - Thailand relations. The Thai Embassy also informed that they had been implementing a series of events to celebrate the anniversary. The ambassador thanked VUFO and the Vietnam - Thailand Friendship Association for their thoughtful preparation for the anniversary.
He said that Vietnam Times - VUFO's forum had contacted the Thai embassy to prepare an article on Vietnam - Thailand relations and a special bilingual magazine edition on this occasion. He added that in the coming time, he would promote activities to improve young people's understanding of the good relationship between Vietnam and Thailand.
