Viet Nam and Venezuela Promote People-to-People Exchanges and Share Development Experience

On May 26, the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) and Venezuela’s Simon Bolivar Institute for Peace and Solidarity among Peoples (ISB) held their annual online talks to review the outcomes of past cooperation and discuss joint programs for the 2026-2027 period. The two sides agreed to promote cooperation in people-to-people exchanges, agriculture, business connectivity, and the sharing of development experience.

Attending the talks on the Vietnamese side were Vice President of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations Dong Huy Cuong; President of the Viet Nam-Venezuela Friendship Association Nguyen Viet Thao; Vietnamese Ambassador to Venezuela Vu Trung My; and representatives of the Americas and Oceania Department under VUFO.

The Venezuelan side included ISB President Blanca Eekhout; ISB Vice President Lidice Altuve; representatives of the Venezuelan Embassy in Viet Nam; and ISB members.

Speaking at the talks, Dong Huy Cuong expressed his pleasure that the situation in Venezuela had stabilized again, while voicing confidence that the Venezuelan people would gradually overcome difficulties and continue to stabilize and develop the country.

Sharing information about Viet Nam after 40 years of Doi Moi (Renewal), he noted that from being one of the world’s poorer countries, Viet Nam has now become a middle-income nation with an increasingly expanding economy; the poverty rate has fallen sharply compared to the beginning of the renewal process in 1986. Viet Nam is striving for rapid and sustainable development while maintaining a peaceful and stable environment to improve people’s living standards.

Dong Huy Cuong also informed the Venezuelan side about several important events in Viet Nam in 2026, notably the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Viet Nam and the elections for deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term.

Regarding the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations, Dong Huy Cuong proposed that the two sides coordinate in organizing thematic seminars on business and local connectivity as well as agricultural development, while also strengthening delegation exchanges and sharing development experience.

According to ISB President Blanca Eekhout, the meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to further strengthen solidarity and friendship between the peoples of Venezuela and Viet Nam, while implementing the contents agreed upon in the Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations.

Blanca Eekhout stated that Venezuela hopes to learn from Viet Nam’s experience in agricultural development, improving production capacity, and economic development. According to her, exchange programs and thematic seminars on agriculture and production training would help support local communities in enhancing their production capacity.

The Venezuelan side also proposed coordinating cultural exchange activities on the occasion of important commemorative events of the two countries, including photo exhibitions and film screenings about Viet Nam in Venezuela on the occasion of the National Day of Viet Nam.

President of the Viet Nam-Venezuela Friendship Association Nguyet Viet Thao highly appreciated Venezuela’s efforts in economic development and stabilizing people’s lives. He said that one of Viet Nam’s important experiences during its renewal process has been effectively mobilizing development resources and creating favorable conditions for the private economic sector to grow.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Venezuela Vu Trung My expressed hope that the two sides would continue to strengthen exchanges and coordinate the organization of activities in the coming period.

The Vietnamese side continued to reaffirm its solidarity and support for the revolutionary cause of the Venezuelan people, emphasizing its readiness to stand alongside the Venezuelan people in safeguarding national sovereignty and building and developing the country.

At the conclusion of the talks, both sides agreed to continue strengthening delegation exchanges, coordinating people-to-people and cultural exchange activities, and expanding cooperation programs in the coming period, thereby contributing to consolidating the friendship between the peoples of Viet Nam and Venezuela.
