Within the framework of activities celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and Cambodia (1967-2017), former Vietnamese volunteer soldiers have returned to Cambodia, where lots of their comrades sacrificed their lives for helping the neighboring country overthrow the genocidal regime.
Cambodia Deputy PM Men Sam An thanked Party, Government and military of Viet Nam and reiterated the great contributions of former Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who helped Cambodia overthrow the genocidal Pol Pot regime. These great contributions helped to develop and foster the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Viet Nam and Cambodia.
She announced gladly to the delegation about the Cambodian situation and bilateral relations in recent years. Cambodia has gained political stability and economic development with a growth rate of 7%. Cambodia has successfully held a communal election and prepared for the Senate election in January and the National Assembly election in July 2018.
Deputy PM also expressed her delight at the good result of PCV General Secretary’s visit to Cambodia. The visit creates a solid foundation for further strengthening and developing the relations between the two countries in the coming time.
She praised the achievements of the Viet Nam – Cambodia Association in promoting people-to-people diplomacy. She urged the Viet Nam – Cambodia Association to further be a bridge for the two peoples, especially young generations to inherit and tighten the traditional friendship between the two countries.
On behalf of the former Vietnamese volunteer soldiers, Vu Mao, Chairman of the Viet Nam – Cambodia Friendship Association, expressed his pleasure at the renovation and development of Cambodia. Despite of their ages, the former Vietnamese volunteer soldiers still wish to contribute to building and fostering friendship and solidarity between the two countries.
He briefed the activities conducted by the Viet Nam - Cambodia Friendship Association. He stressed the distinctive attention and support from the State and Government of Viet Nam for the Viet Nam – Cambodia Friendship Association. The Association as well as the Vietnamese people take consideration of the propaganda and education for all classes in society, especially the young people, on the tradition of bilateral relations.
Speaking at the reception, Som Lan, a doctor in Cho Ray Hospital, member of the delegation, was touched to share that she has had mixed blood, who has Cambodia father and Vietnamese mother. Although Som has still lived and worked in Viet Nam, Som Lan has a good impression of her homeland. She has participated in charity work for poor Cambodians.
