To mark the 76th National Day of Vietnam, the Indo-Vietnam Solidarity Committee held a virtual seminar on "Indo-Vietnam Strategic Partnership: The Imperative Need of the Hour" on Sept. 2.
The event welcomed Pham Sanh Chau, Vietnam Ambassador to India; Nguyen Phuong Nga, President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO); Ha Minh Hue, Executive Vice-President of Vietnam-India Friendship Association; members of the Indo-Vietnam Solidary Committee (IVSC)' and scholars and journalists from both countries.

Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga said the Vietnamese and Indian people had shared a long-lasting friendship, dating back to 2000 years ago with cultural exchanges and the introduction of Buddhism and Hinduism from India to Vietnam. It has been nurtured and continuously developed by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, President Ho Chi Minh, and succeeding generations of leaders and peoples of two countries and become a special relationship “as clear as a sky without a single string of cloud.”
Since the establishment of full diplomatic relations on Jan. 7 1972, the bilateral relations have developed in depth and in all fields including economy, trade, investment, defense and security, science and technology, culture, education, and people-to-people exchanges. Nga stressed that the Vietnam-Indian comprehensive strategic partnership was based on traditional friendship, historical and cultural similarities, mutual understanding, and trust.

People-to-people exchanges and practical activities of two countries’ friendship organizations have played an active role in developing bilateral relations. The VUFO president thanked the IVSC for its meaningful activities and believed that the committee would cooperate with VUFO to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and India.
Nguyen Phuong Nga said that the people organizations would work more closely to strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between two countries, thus contributing to the promotion of peace and prosperity in the world.
Earlier that day, the IVSC sent a congratulatory letter to VUFO and held a tribute at the Ho Chi Minh monument in Kolkata city to celebrate Vietnamese National Day.
The India-Vietnam Solidarity Committee was born in 1974 and is headquartered in Calcutta, West Bengal State, India. It was established to promote the traditional friendship between India and Vietnam. Since its establishment, the committee has held many activities to promote friendship and cooperation with Vietnam.
Geetesh Sharma, Former President of the India-Vietnam Solidarity Committee in West Bengal and a good friend of Vietnam was posthumously awarded the Order of Friendship by the Vietnam Embassy in India for his contributions to Vietnam-India relations.
