Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga, President of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) met with Ambassador Piragibe dos Santos Tarrago, Special Envoy of Brazil to ASEAN on April 25 in Hanoi.
At the meeting, Nga and Tarrago exchanged and discussed how ASEAN works; expectations on cooperation between Brazil - Vietnam as a Sectoral Dialogue Partner of ASEAN; and priority areas where the two sides can cooperate.
Congratulating Brazil on becoming a Sectoral Dialogue Partner of ASEAN, the VUFO President said that ASEAN is a dynamic economic region. During its development, ASEAN has created a stable peace and security environment in Southeast Asia as well as among its member countries. In particular, solidarity is a decisive factor for the success of ASEAN and the strength for the bloc to maintain stability in the current context.
The VUFO President emphasized that Vietnam - Brazil have a traditional friendship and a comprehensive partnership with great potential for development. Vietnam is Brazil's largest trading partner in ASEAN, whereas Brazil is also Vietnam's largest trading partner in South America.
VUFO President Nga wished that Brazil would continue to support Vietnam at international organizations and multilateral forums; helping Vietnam expand relations with countries and organizations in Latin America, including supporting Vietnam to sign a Free Trade Agreement with the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR - including Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay).
Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga also wished to promote the traditional friendship to boost people-to-people relations between Vietnam and Brazil; strengthen cultural, art, sports and people-to-people exchanges; enhancing tourism and relations between localities of the two countries; strengthening business connection through the people channel, especially in areas such as green agriculture development, digital transformation, and technology.
