This is one among the series of activity to celebrate the Viet Nam - Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2017, the 55th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties, and the 40th anniversary of the Viet Nam- Lao Amity and Cooperation Treaty. It is also the rare gathering which brought together officers working for the former Western region Affairs department and their family members, who are residents of the apartment block No.79-81 Ly Nam De Street since 1959. Apart from those who are living in Hanoi, the gathering welcomed the participation of delegates from the south, including HCM.City, Khanh Hoa, Can Tho, and Binh Dinh.
The reunion was kick started by the visit made by Ambassador of Laos to Viet Nam Thongsavan Phomvihane (the youngest son of the late Prime Minister Kaysone Phomvihane) to two families of martyrs who were residents of the apartment block NO. 79-81 Ly Nam De Street. The event also brought to the audience arts performing program by children of the officers, as well as cuisines festival running through the evening of Oct 21.
Speaking at the gathering, Laos Ambassador to Viet Nam Thongsavan Phomvihane said he was touched by the heart-warming event. He also recalled his memories of being born and brought up in Viet Nam, and expressed deep gratitude to the supports of Vietnamese officers for the struggle for independence and liberty of the Laos people. The gratitude will be forever engraved in Lao people’s heart, he said.
