The report presented at the Congress stated: “The Association will coordinate with Can Tho City to enlist the support of the Vietnamese Embassy and Consulate General in the US in the fields of trade, import-export, and agriculture, and signed agreements”.
Besides, the Association will support Can Tho City to contact and consider the possibility of cooperation in programs and projects in the fields of environmental technology, waste treatment, import, and export, calls for aid for small, localized projects, and support from Non-Governmental Organizations for NGOs projects, connect with the Association of Vietnamese Compatriots in the US.

The Association will also coordinate with Can Tho University in calling for aid from FDI, ODA, and NGOs, taking advantage of scholarship sources, and businesses to conduct projects consistent with the development goals of the City and the Mekong Delta region, ensuring a safe life for the people of the City. In particular, the Association will strengthen relationships with localities, units, and organizations to promote and support socio-economic development, education, investment cooperation, and trade between Can Tho and US partners.
The Congress elected a new Executive Committee consisting of 17 members. Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh Toan, former President of Can Tho University, was re-elected President of the Vietnam - US Friendship Association of Can Tho City for the 2023 - 2028 term.
He suggested that in the coming time, the Association continues to maintain, develop, and deepen the cooperative relationship with the US Consulate General and US partners; associate the Association's activities with the implementation of the Party and State's foreign policy in the spirit of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam - US.

In addition, the Association needs to continue to strengthen the twinning relationship and practical cooperation between Can Tho City and Riverside City through the exchange of delegations, organizing tours and cultural, artistic, physical training, and sports exchanges, calling on investors in Riverside City to seek cooperation and investment opportunities in Can Tho City.
The Association needs to proactively coordinate with Can Tho University, the City Union of Friendship Organizations, and US non-governmental organizations to promote the implementation of programs and projects consistent with the development goals of the City and the Mekong Delta region, supporting the well-being of local people in Can Tho City, especially the vulnerable.
At the Congress, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) presented the Medal "For peace and friendship among peoples" to Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh Toan, President of the Vietnam - US Friendship Association of Can Tho City. The Association was also awarded a Certificate of Merit by VUFO for many positive contributions in people-to-people diplomacy for the term 2018 – 2023.

Last term, the Vietnam - US Friendship Association of Can Tho City organized many events and activities in coordination with US partners, bringing about many practical results, having socio-political significance, and were highly appreciated and enhanced by Leaders of the City. Thereby, the Association's reputation was enhanced, tightening the friendship between the people of Vietnam - US to be increasingly sustainable.
The Association also paid attention to mobilizing partners to implement projects and participate in social security and charity development work in the City and in the Mekong Delta region, bringing many effective and valuable results in research and forecasting at the regional level. From 2018 to June 2023, the Association in collaboration with Can Tho University has implemented 28 projects with US partners, with a total budget of up to USD 112,613, notably projects with US institutes/schools, governmental and non-governmental organizations such as USAID, USGS, Edorer.
The Association also plays an active role in connecting with Sunflower Mission Organization to provide scholarships for students in difficult circumstances; mobilize US non-governmental organizations to support medical equipment to prevent and control the COVID-19 pandemic and provide online learning equipment for students in difficult circumstances; participate in appraisal of many programs and projects sponsored by US organizations, etc.
