Addressing the event, VUFO President Phan Anh Son briefed the visitors on Viet Nam's development direction, the outcomes of implementing the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV)'s innovative policy on foreign affairs, and Viet Nam's perspective on people-to-people diplomacy and internationalism.
He highlighted the strong development of the Viet Nam – US relations, and the upgrade of the bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership on the occasion of US President Joe Biden’s state visit to Viet Nam last September, saying that this is an important step in the relations between the two countries, where people-to-people exchange is one of the 10 pillars of the comprehensive strategic partnership.
Son said in the coming time, VUFO and its member organisations such as the Viet Nam-US Society and the Viet Nam Peace Committee will continue to strengthen people-to-people exchange activities, towards further promoting mutual understanding, building and consolidating strategic trust between the two nations.

For his part, Cambron said the delegation’s trip aims to earn more understanding about the history, culture, country, and people of Viet Nam; as well as the practice and experience in building the Party and socialism in the Southeast Asian nation.
US delegates also inquired on VUFO's role in supporting non-governmental organisations (NGOs) operating in Viet Nam; and discussed the international situation, and communist, labour, and peace movements in the world, especially in the US and Latin American countries.
During their March 2-8 stay, the delegation from the Communist Party of the US visited Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum; held talks with leaders of the CPV Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations; had working sessions with leaders of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics (HCMA), the Central Committee of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front, the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO), the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee and the Viet Nam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin; and visited Hanoi-based rehabilitation and nursery centre for Agent Orange (AO)/dioxin victims and Hoa Binh Village in Hanoi’s Thanh Xuan district.
The delegation also worked with leaders of the Party Committees and visited several typical economic and agricultural production provincial, and historical and cultural relic sites in the northern provinces of Quang Ninh and Hung Yen.
This was the CPUSA's first official visit to Viet Nam within its "Hello Comrades" project to strengthen the friendship and connection between CPUSA and communist and worker parties around the world.
The delegation learned about the reality and experience in building the communist party, socialism and socialist democracy in Viet Nam as well as Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style. They also discussed measures to promote information/experience sharing, and exchanges and friendship between the two parties and people of the two countries.
The CPUSA delegation said they were impressed by the achievements of Viet Nam's “Doi Moi” (renewal) process under the leadership of the CPV, especially in terms of economic development coupled with ensuring social security and justice.
The good results that the CPV brought to the country and the Vietnamese people are a great spiritual encouragement for the communists and people in the US, they noted.
