Addressing the ceremony, VUFO Vice President Bui Khac Son lauded the diplomat’s successful term in Viet Nam. He stressed that the award aims to acknowledge the ambassador’s contributions to the friendship and cooperation between the people of Viet Nam and Chile as well as other Latin American countries.
Two-way trade continues to rise, growing from $US 170 million in 2005 to $US 1.3 million in 2017. Besides political, diplomatic and economic activities, people-to-people exchanges between the two countries have been thriving.
According to Son, Ambassador Claudio De Negri Quintana has promoted the signing of a two-Government Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in helping victims and children struggling with Agent Orange/Dioxin in Viet Nam.
He has worked closely with the VUFO and the Viet Nam - Chile Friendship Association in people-to-people exchange activities and friendship meetings such as the exhibition of paintings, photographs and gastronomy of Chile and inauguration of the mural painting designed by Chilean artist Alejandro Mono Gonzalez on the Hanoi Ceramic Road. The Ambassador also enthusiastically participated in events held by VUFO.
The VUFO Vice President said he hopes that the Ambassador, in any position, will continue contributing to developing the friendship and collaboration between the two nations.
Expressing his honour at receiving the most notable medal of the VUFO, Ambassador Claudio Andres De Negri Quintana highlighted the long-standing friendship between Viet Nam and Chile and expressed his appreciation towards the warmth and support of the Vietnamese. Stressing great potential for Viet Nam - Chile cooperation due to many similarities in culture and history between the two, the Ambassador voiced his hope that the bilateral ties will continue to expand and also pledged to continue efforts to boost the cooperation in his new position.
After the commemorative ceremony, Chilean artist Alejandro Mono Gonzalez presented a painting for VUFO, which is painted by him and Vietnamese friend on the occasion of his visit to Viet Nam in 2017.
