Attending the Congress included Bui Khac Son, Vice President of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations; Giang Pao My, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Standing Committee; Tong Thanh Hai, Vice Chairman of the Lai Chau People's Committee, president of the Lai Chau Union of Friendship Organizations and over 100 delegates of the local union.
At the Congress, the Lai Chau Union of Friendship Organizations reviewed the results of the first term, direction and tasks for the second term; review the Executive Committee’s report of the first course; approving the amended charter and the personnel program for the 2017 - 2022 term.
Since its establishment in September, 2012, the union has collaborated with a number of agencies and units to promote information and propaganda about the people's external relations work in the province, contributing to building a friendly image of Lai Chau; to maintain a peaceful and stable environment, promoting international cooperation in all fields. At the same time, to closely coordinate with the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) to broaden friendly relations with international organizations and people from all countries in the world, especially the neighboring countries.
The union has also coordinated with concerned agencies to actively mobilize the resources of international organizations and foreign NGOs implementing programs and projects focusing on education, health, clean water and sanitation, climate change responses, etc., contributing to the poverty reduction in the province.
Giang Pao My, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, expressed his hope that in the coming time, the union will continue to boost measures to develop the relations between Viet Nam and foreign countries, particularly neighboring countries such as Laos, China..., strengthen of friendship exchanges, improving the quality of its organizations, and expanding exchange activities, while actively participating in the propaganda to constantly enhance mutual trust, understanding and friendship between Lai Chau and the international people.
On behalf of the VUFO, Vice President Bui Khac Son highly spoke the direction of operation of the Lai Chau Union set out at the second Congress. He suggested, in the future, the Union should further expand relations and diversify partners, strengthen and develop the networking, intensify and renew the contents and types of activities; keeping to promote its role as the focal agency for mobilizing and managing the operation of foreign NGOs; enhancing capacity building and training for officials in people-to-people dip-lomacy; providing information on the situation and local needs to international friends.
On this occasion, officials of the Lai Chau Union have received the Certificates of Merit and the VUFO’s Medal “For peace and friendship among nations” for their outstanding achievements in the people-to-people affairs for the term 2012 - 2017.
