VUFO to maintain close coordination with the Cuban Embassy in 2018

Vice President in-charge, General Secretary of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) today held a reception for the Cuban Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Viet Nam Lianys Torres Rivera.

At the meeting, VUFO’s Vice President congratulated Ambassador Rivera on being appointed Cuban Ambassador to Viet Nam, and wish her a successful tenure in the country, contributing to the flourishing friendship of two nations.

Phong also took the occasion to brief Cuban Ambassador on the activities, missions and responsibilities of VUFO, stressing the importance of the relations between VUFO and the Embassy of Cuba in reinforcing the long-standing treasured relationships of Viet Nam and Cuba. He highly spoke the traditional relations between the two countries.

Phong recalled several remarkable events of VUFO in 2017, particularly the visit to Cuba in October, in which leaders of VUFO worked with the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), the Cuba – Viet Nam Friendship Association and attended the 50th death anniversary of the hero Che Guevara.

For her part, Ambassador Rivera appreciated the VUFO’s role in nourishing the Vietnam – Cuba friendship in recent years. In 2018, there are many significant celebrations, such as the 165th birthday of Cuba’s national hero José Martí, 65th anniversary of the Moncada attack, 60th anniversary of Cuban Revolution. Rivera expressed her hope that the Cuban embassy will continue to receive valuable supports from VUFO and the Cuba - Viet Nam Friendship Association, especially in jointly holding these activities.

On the occasion, she also recommended VUFO to pay attention to engaging the youth in events promoting Viet Nam, Cuba’s friendship, in order to deepen their mutual understandings, laying a solid foundation for them to continue cultivating the friendship legacy.
