Speaking at the ceremony, the President of the Viet Nam - Belarus Friendship Association Nguyen Thai Lai reviewed the friendly relations between the two countries. There are regular exchange of delegations at all levels, especially high-level delegations. The two countries have worked closely together and supported each other at international fora such as the United Nations and other major international fora and maintained cooperative mechanisms. Economic cooperation, trade promotion have risen both in quality and quantity, bilateral trade turnover in 2016 reached nearly US$ 100 million.
Speaking at the anniversary, President Nguyen Thai Lai said that since its founding, the Association has actively organized many friendly and cooperative activities such as the bilateral exchanges; meetings of Vietnamese alumni in Belarus; the alumni revisited in Belarus; exchanges on the occasion of the National Day.
Congratulating this day, Chargé d’affaires ad interim of Belarus in Viet Nam Dmitry Gil highlighted the dynamic and strong development of the bilateral relations, adding that Viet Nam is Belarus’s traditional trade partner in Southeast Asia. He also hailed cultural cooperation between the two countries, saying that the work has been actively supported by the Association.
The diplomat expressed his hope that the Association will continue serving as a bridge to promote closer friendship between the two nations in the coming time.
Many representatives of local chapters of the Viet Nam Belarus Friendship Association shared working experiences in contributing to promoting the diplomatic and economic relations between Viet Nam and Belarus.
On this occasion, the Viet Nam - Belarus Friendship Association has received the certificate of merit from the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations for their active contributions in people-to-people diplomacy in the term 1997– 2017.
